This picture is a freeze frame from a video running on Youtube about the history of Bobcat.
I find it interesting early models of certain Bobcats had this 4th wheel on the back to prevent the machine from tipping backwards. Looks like a viable option that could be custom made for the smaller (and lighter) models like my Melroe M371.
It's prone to tipping backwards on slopes with an empty bucket, as I have come to learn the hard way.
