'99 863 Highflow - removing fuel

Help Support SkidSteer Forum:

I was able to get the drain plugbout, and none too soon. It broke apart when removing it. I drained everything, then ran 10 galloms of fuel back through it about 10 times trying to flush the bad out. Lots of stuff came out which is great. In hopes that running it through as much as I did, cleared the new strainer that I just installed. I really don't want to drain the hydro oil, pull the tank and play a blind contortionist, again.

For the fuel filter.. what are others using that spec out same as Bobcat, but don't have the high price?
I was also told to run an algaecide through it, as most likely it was growing. I did not realize bio diesel did this. Thoughts??

Thanks as always for the feedback!

Bio diesel is bad about algae growth, if you are running a lot of fuel through your machine it is not a problem, if you buy diesel from a place that does not sell a lot of diesel they can contaminate your system, the Freightliner truck dealership put (Power Service clean diesel and tank cleaner ) after I got a batch of bad fuel in my semi, they told me to get the fuel filters changed after about 1000 miles and I should be good and that I should retreat if the filters were still gelled up at my next oil service, I always had fuel filters serviced with oil at 20k miles. I would think that there is other manufacturers making algaecides just as good as Power Service products.

Happy Saturday to all!! Getting SOOO close!

I drained all the fuel and had lots of crude come out. I used my transfer pump and recirculated the fuel many times. I can now run for apx 15 minutes before I believe the strainer is plugging back up.

Here is what I'm thinking of trying, because I do not want to continually pull the strainer/strainer line from the tank, which requires the hydro oil/tank to be removed...thinking of removing the strainer and adding a larger bulb style filter right ahead of the primer bulb and run with that until I'm toba point of not having to change the bulb filter.

Thoughts?? Have a great weekend!

I have had to do makeshift things for equipment having the strainer where you can reach it would be good, on my semi I had a small diameter paint stirring that fit a drill I had to trim it about 1/8 dia to get it in the tank, however a person can use air to get the fuel moving around also, I used a 18" long 1/8 pipe with a 90 on the end of it to get the fuel on the bottom of a tank moving while having a electric fuel pump just pulling fuel out and right back in to the tank I had the biggest inline fuel filter from Napa, a battery charger hooked to the battery set to the lowest setting and checked it (the fuel pump and filter ) it took about 4 filters before it could run for and hour without plugging up, you only need to use air every once in a while to stir things up , just like driving would do.

Made headway this evening! Pulled the strainer off in the tank and put a bulb filter in near the primer bulb. Most likely will go through several of these before I've got it all clear...but it's running!!
