Hi helpful people, i recently bought a 97 bobcat 763. I got it for what i thought was a good deal. It is rough and used but i figured i could use it for my side jobs and at my property and fix things up as i go.

Current issue: went to start the machine yesterday and nothing happened when i turned the key. The BOSS fuse is blown, but it doesnt appear to me that this machine has the boss option?

I put a jumper wire to the key switch and it fired right up, that it all i had time to look at other than a quick glance for obvious damage to easy accessible places in the harness.

Would anyone have a good place to start to track down what i am guessing is a dead short? I do have access to a service manual.

Well, replace the blown Fuse and check all other fuses.
In the case it blows again, check what is on that circuit and eliminate stuff until it odes not blow again.
Possible that you ignition switch is bad, would be not the first one in these old machines.

the fuse blows immediately, all others are good. The fuse is labeled BOSS but i dont believe this machine has the boss system. Ill have to take some time and look at the schematic.

If you have this display in upper right cab, you have BOSS.

Fuse blows instantly, sounds like dead short like you hinted.

Thanks for the clarification. I do not have that display. I wonder why that fuse is Labeled BOSS. Oh well, i will have time to look into it further this weekend. Should be a good oppurtunity to do some deep cleaning while im at it. Amazing how much straw, dirt, and other junk is packed into my machine. I bought it from an old farmer that bought it new and i dont think it ever once was washed.
