1998 bobcat 753: started machine this morning..it opertaed 100%..ran, lifted, and dumped....about 2 min later it lost power to the controls... it starts and runs fine but the drive control arms and foot pedals do not work...no foward or reverse...no lift, no tilt, etc... -all the lights on the black box behind seat are green -hyrdolic light is not on -no visible leaks, broken hoses, burnt wires, etc.. any ideas or suggestions ?

Definitely main drive belt from flywheel to pumps.(most common cause by far anyway) Charge pressure warning light should have went off but maybe it does not work.

ok thanks...is this easy to swap out? can you hook these machines to a computer like an obd2 reader for a car to troubleshoot codes or anything like this? thanks for help

The G series and newer machines can hook up to a computer for diagnostics, The older machines with BOSS(digital display) can hook up to a special diagnostic tool. 98 is probably F series, if it has guages and not digital display, there is no diagnostic connection, as there is no big computer in the machine. There are 2 smaller computers, 1 for the BICS which is the safety lockout system, and 1 for the auxiliary hydraulics.

thank you for help... machine is on site still i just messed with it untill dark... so yes it seems to be an F series then...i popped off belt cover and messed around with it..the belt looks intact and nothing seems to be loose or falling off...fluid is full..pressure light is not on..all green lights on light board behind seat are lit up...but still no response from hydrolics...just nothing in controls or pedals... ??? lifted cab..everything looked normal to the eye... spool valve or sensor was just replaced as well as some other belt tentioner..the drive belt tentioner did not seem to be new but looked in tact.. possible that the pump is bad ? or something eletrical stoping it from sending ??

Does the pressure light come on b4 you start it? If the pumps are turning then the machines appears to have lost the hydraulic pump, which is also your charge pump, but if this is the case the charge pressure warning light should be on.
If it has the "boss" bar graph gauges it may have a code stored but it won't do you much good to retrieve it. If it has the analog gauges there are no codes stored

yes pressure light comes on before start...so this means its opperational, correct? belt is running when machine is on...but the light is not coming on ....and yes analog gauges... hmmm...guess its gotta get drug up the flatbed and brought back to mechanic... is there some type of over ride or something to unlock the wheels to pull it up onto truck ? thanks for all the help

Let us all know what happened. Could happen to any one of us and it's nice to have the knowledge to try to apply to whatever current problem we're trying to solve. I'm always worried about getting my Bobcat way down in the forest on a tight slope and having it quit or lock up or go on the fritz. :-) --- RC

its gotta be somthing really stupid.... the guy called today and said that everything is working properly..he didnt even do anything...he said he wants to hang on to it and see if it malfunctions want to have him look at some other small things as well...but could it have fixed itself by dragging it up the flatbed ... ???? hopefully he comes up with something...ill keep u posted

I wonder if one or more of your relief valves in the hydraulic system opened. did your mechanic try running it under load and see if it cuts out???

he still had it...its a very reliable hydraulic shop..he said he wants to run it a little and see what happens..have been using friends 07 john deer in mean time..

Did u ever get it figured out ? My 753 is doing the same thing after it's parked overnight the I keep starting it it throws a code HP 3 and shutdown do it a few times everything kicks in and starts working?

Mind you when you "drag" your machines when hydraulic is not working/motor is turned off. The wheels are "locked" and this might cause the chains to break or a hose / the hydrostatic drive motors to malfunction. See if you drag your machines your wheels will want to turn but they can't as the hydrostatic motors do not have any by-pass for the hyrdaulic oil which means that your wheel axels tries to "pump" oil through the motors which are locked. Something will eventually break. What you can do is to either loosen the hoses to your drive motors or lift the whole machine onto whatever transportation you're using.

Spring brakes in motors are locked when no hydraulic pressure is sent to release them when actuation of drive motor is commanded .

Best to move machine with a forklift or on dolly wheels a trailer .
Unless you pull hydraulic drive motors out or remove drive chains .
