Would you buy a JCB or a Bobcat? and Why?
I didn't quite understand that. Is it 4000 hours? And the cost is $30k?I am looking at a 2021 Bobcat S62 with $4K. It is sold by a major rental company at around $30K. I have the option to buy the warranty. Would you all buy from a rental company?
Yes, 2021 S62 mode, 4000 hours and cost is $30K but a Bobcat sales rep convinced me not to go with a rental company of course. They said the inspections are not thorough and warranty is not as comprehensive. He offered a 2022 T62 model with 1415 hours and backed by warranty. They are local as well vs the rental company which is 2 hours away.I didn't quite understand that. Is it 4000 hours? And the cost is $30k?
mrbb - Excellent feedback. It sounds like the usage history, service records, proximity to a service center, and going rates in the locality trump more than just brand and number of hours. I appreciate your feedback! It helps a lot.JUST 2 two cents
forums are full of folks that have both good and bad luck with"X" brand machines
the more popular the brand( more machines sold per yr for "X many Yrs
,
IMO is why one see's more negative posts, and or more issues on "X brand
every brand makes good machines, and BAD ones leave there factories, there NO best brand nor worst in any of the big name players
they all have folks that love them and others that dislike them!
when buying used, its honestly more important to go over each machine your considering, as HOW any machine was used abused or treated matters more than the brand name on it
from there you need to consider support near you, what brands have GOOD support nearest you!,
then ask yourself the honest questions,
like are you REALLY going to be the guy fixing it, and up keeping it?? do you have skills and time and a place to work on it?
what exact intended uses are of the machine,
and from there pick machines that fit the above, as in,
look like they were treated right, PM's done on time, and was not abused(knowing what to look for can help you know these things when looking at used machines)??
next, is, do these models they fit your needs ??
do they have good support near you,??
and then , you have to look at like model machines in YOUR Area and what are the going prices on them in YOUR area!
as area can make a BIG difference in prices
asking here on a forum, what model for YOU to pick, is not a real question for use to answer
as we do not know many important things, like again' your needs?
your support in your area, your tool turning skills and abilities?
what current prices are in YOUR area!
all these things matter in picking a machine!

as for buying from a rental center, this again is a loaded question as NOT all rental centers do things the same way
I know of some rental shops that take great care of there machines, and well, I know of a few that dosen't
many bail on machines after warranty's expire or at about the 2000-3000 hour mack as that is when many issues start to happen!
but as stated above, hours alone does NOT tell the story on condition of a machine.
HOW It was used, or abused, and cared for or not! matters more to a POINT of course!
but I would rather a machine with 5,000 hours that was cared for, pm's done, grease as needed or more often than needed! and so on
than one with 2500hrs that was abused, never grease, pm's lacked and operators that didn;t give a crap about it! and was used HARD all the time!
if you do NOT know what to look for on used machines, take someone with you that does, it can literally save you thousands of $$$'s!

very well said. The principles above apply to so many other things in life in addition to skid steers. Gone are the days of superior quality and stellar customer service. The mighty dollar has taken over them all. Thank you so much for your valued feedback.yes condition and use matters more IMO
if you take into consideration how many skid steers are sold each and every yr, of ALL makes and models
, to be honest its only a very very small percentage of owners that are on forums, with issues, or complaining about "X" brand/model!
just like cars and trucks, one person will bash one brand/model, and another will love the same make/model
good and bad ones of everything exists, and how an owner uses or abuses
, or takes care of or doesn't
seems to be a larger part of failures and or problems something has!
plus, well, lets face it, only about .01 % of anything is actually inspected by Quality control in a production environment!,
everything that goes into a machine, is sourced out pretty much any more, beyond any BRANDS control
and were in a workforce era, where GOOD workers are harder to have and keep than ever!
the days of a person have PRIDE in doing a good job, sadly is only with a small percentage of workers any more
these days, everyone wants a to get paid, and sadly seems like they could care less if there known for doing a good job or bad, as long as they get paid!
and worse yet, most company's could care less about reputations and or about repeat buyers
Buyers are replaceable, and NO single buyer , is keeping a company afloat these days
so, they don;'t care about YOU coming back or not
YES they hope you do, but if not, there not loosing any sleep over it! or any real profits!
the days of a company caring about there reputation for making LONG lasting products is long gone
now its about making things last JUST long enough the consumer doesn't complain too much
everything is tested to KNOW the breaking points, and warranty reflect it
nothing today is OVER BUILT< like some things in the past were!
were in the most disposable world on products than ever before
where the game is, keep buying again and again! and designing things, so the average person cannot repair them themselves! forcing you to come back to them for repairs, that once the average tool turner could fix!
sorry about the rant, but, as I said, condition and use matter more,
then support and well your skills or not come into play on many other costs
