Sooo, second post here, just picked up this '77 Bobcat 630. It's a 4cyl gasser, air cooled. It was running when I bought it so I haven't done much else besides run it. Until today when... the electric fuel pump started to get hot, smoke and short itself out.

After a quick look at the "fuel system" here, it appears this is not original equipment 🤣 . I'm digging around for the manual now but, in the mean time, I need to figure something out to get this thing moving before someone from my HOA sends me a picture and a fine for having it in my yard.

A few questions I'm hoping someone here can help me sort out:

Did this thing originally have an electric fuel pump?

If so, where was it mounted? Obviously screwing it into the fuel tank is not an option and the previous owners zip-tie skills are a little lacking.

Any idea why they may have added the fuel regulator? Thinking maybe this was a band-aid for carburetor issues, any thoughts?

Should I just replace the fuel pump, attach all this stuff a little better and roll it??

What would you do if it was yours?

Thanks in advance!!
Shane

I would guess that who ever put the electric pump on there could not find a low pressure one and added the regulator. I think you only need about 2 lbs. of gas pressure for the wisconsin engines carb. Orginally it has a manual pump on it, the idea of a electric pump is a good one as you do not have to wonder about diluting your engine oil with a ruptured fuel pump diaphram. If it was running well enough,I would just try to find a low pressure electric pump and get rid of the regulator if possible.

New pump installed, seems to work much better than the previous one, although I forgot that I was supposed to mount it lower for some reason... to prevent vapor lock? Next project is to fix the throttle, it constantly slips into lower speeds, you can watch the handle move backwards all by itself. Any ideas ya'll?

back in the day I had a bobcat 500 which is older than what you have. anyway ,I would guess they might be simulair in design, maybe? the bolt that the lever piviots on had like friction washers and a spring on the bolt as you tightened the bolt it stiffened the speed control.
