When I turn the key, all I got was a click at the starter. While turning the key, someone tapped it with a hammer and the starter began to spin. So I am thinking I need a new starter. How do I get it out? I have the the twin filter design, and the injector pump prevents the starter from sliding out. Is there a trick to getting it out? Or do I need to remove the injection pump to have enough access to slide the starter out? Additionally, anybody have any luck with the aftermarket replacement starters? I see them on Ebay for around $200, but the dealer wants $450 for a new one. Thanks!

The problem with removing the injection pump is the starter is in the way and you can not get it out.
Remove the fuel filter assy from the intake manifold mounting. Disconnect the fuel lines and remove the two bolts holding the filter head to the intake manifold.
If you have a metal engine dipstick tube there is a connection a few inches above where it enters the engine block. Disconnect there and remove. There are two supporting bolts by the injection pump.
You may want to disconnect the throttle cabe to the injection pump and move it out of the way.
Remove the wires from the starter and remove the top bolt next to the engine block and the lower outer bolt.
Now remove the last bolt, the attaching the ground wires.
As you can see the nose of the starter is up against the back of the injection pump. Lift the nose end of the starter, rotate the top of the starter slightly towards the engine. As you do this lower the nose end and the starter nose will pass to the inside of the injection pump protrusion. When the nose of the starter is below the injection pump protrusion pull the nose end towards you. Watch carefully how it comes out so you can get it back in without a lot of trial and error.
