My LX 565 starts most of of the time, but lately it has been making a single selonide click sound, when I flick the switch to service it says Error 02 some of the times. If I keep trying it will start up and run great most of the time. No error codes show when it's running. I took the starter out and the lug that the positive battery cable was a bit corroded and the insulator was deteriorated, I cleaned it up and and put it back in. It's better but still does the no start with the click some of the time. I put my hand on the starter when trying to start it when it was acting up and I could feel the selonoide engage, but the starter does not turn. Is the error 02 normal with a no start? Is there an interlock switch that might be the culprit? Would you recomend putting a new starter in?

Anyone do business with these guys? www.startersalternators.com http://www.startersalternators.com/product/A18139N?gdftrk=gdfV21352_a_7c598_a_7c1745_a_7cA18139N They have a NEW starter for $110.00 with shipping.

My lx 665 did the same thing, took awhile but finally figured out it was the starter interlock relay. cost about $40. It did the exact same thing. There is a thread here on lx665 won't start that may help. The interlock relay is in the engine bay fuse box halfway down in the box on the left side.

Bruce the error02 is fuel solenoid and it seems to come up anytime the engine won't start. If the starter turns fine when you do get it to engage it is probably ok and it is a relay or solenoid or one of the seat switches is not making contact all the time. If you have no book try the link in the post for lx 665 down below.

Take a test lamp or a volt meter and put it on the switched 12v to the solenoid (the little wire that slips over the spade connector). Have someone sit in the seat, belt in and turn the key. If you consistently get juice, it's the starter. What usually happens is the commutator disk in the starter gets corroded and burnt, and won't make good contact. $110 for a starter is pretty good, about what I paid from Pat's small engine.

Thank you. That is a good idea. I will give that a try tonight with my son.

I seem to have the same problem however my machine will not start in the service mode either. After several attempts it finally engaes and starts normally as it should. It clicks just like this one does.I have seen no updates on this thread as to what the solution was.Anybody with advice please chime in.I feel my starter and battery are fine as the machine starts perfectly normal after several key turns with no other intervention. Is it a relay and which one?

go the thread "lx665 won't start" follow chip's advice on tracing the power. it does sound more like the starter solenoid on yours does it click every time you turn the key? If not then it could be a few other things. seat / seat belt switch service switch, starter interlock relay, start relay. you can switch the preheat relay with the start relay to check that out . pita to do it though.

I was unable to find that in a search."lx665 wont start". However I had my son try to start the machine and hold the key in the start position, and at that point I gently taped on the starter with a hammer, after several taps the machine turned over and started. With this information do you believe that the starter and or solinod are bad. That is the direction I am leaning. Thanks

So far the new starter seems to be working.I have not had any problems as of yet. I was able to purchase a new starter off of e-bay for $105 shipped to my door.
