Hello. I have an old (50 years?) Gehl 6625. I believe the engine is a Perkins. I have the schematic. I'm savvy when it come to gas engine, not at all with diesel. The extent of my glow plug knowledge is the heat things up to start easier in cold weather. I'd like to understand how glow plug control on this thing works.

I've studied the schematic, but it doesn't make any sense to me, but then again I don't know what it's supposed to do, LOL.

Any guidance or explanation or starting point (even direct me to a good book) would be appreciated. Happy to provide additional info.

I know nothing about that machine but I would think that a 1975 era machine would just have a momentary push to heat switch or button to activate for around 15 seconds before activating the starter in cold weather.

That's what I initially thought, but the schematic shows a "glow control" with seven wires and an associated relay. There is also a "glow indicator lamp" on the instrument panel, with what looks like a tiny heating element inside.

I'll try and get someone to scan the schematic so I can post it here. Seems like the starter and the ignition are all tied into this.
