742 Ford gas ignitor. Any help would be appreciated, my old 742 had points and recently got a Pertronix 1241LS igniter. I do not understand the whole resistance wire directions that they give with the igniter. Do I just put the black from igniter to negative on coil along with the red to positive ALONG with the two wires that are ganged together from the bobcats harness that go to the positive on the coil? It shoes something about putting the red igniter wire on BEFORE some resistance wire??? I'm confused, I thought that this would be simple. I'm afraid of burning out the new $180 igniter!!

From factory your bobcat will have a ballast resistor between the ignition switch and the ignition coil to keep your points from burning up. The other wire that goes to your ignition coil + side comes from the starter solenoid to give you the full battery voltage to make a good strong healthy spark while you start the engine. Once the engine is started, the current to the coils flows through the ballast resistor to reduce the voltage some and not burn out your points. You'll need to see if your machine still has such a resistor installed and if it does, you will hook the red wire up before the resistor so the pertronix unit gets full power. The black wire gets hooked to the - post on the coil. I can take some pictures a little later today of mine if you like, but I don't have a ballast resistor on my machine anymore…
