i have a cat 226 and would like to install an engine block heater instead of an oil pad heater. does anyone know if cat makes such a thing for skid steers?

Yup, ask for it at your parts counter, it plugs right into the side of the block, I think the plug is already in the engine block.
I could give you the part number, but my parts book for my Cat is gone with the new owners.

cat part # 218-0942 on a 262B with 3044C engine. they want $200 for it. anyone have an idea for how to do this for less money?
Search for A & L Systems, they have block heaters that will fit almost anything at about half the price. 257B heater cost $79

when the engine compartment is opened the letters S4S-D are cast into the top of the engine head. this is a Mitsubishi engine. we installed frost plug Zero Start 3100016 in the frost plug. we also got a 500 watt Kat's heat pad and attempted to install on the hydraulic reservoir. It was way too hot! Also the hydraulic reservoir was plastic.
