I just pulled the bronze looking filter out of the block right under the drivers seat on my mid 80's 843. There was some bronze/brass looking residue/muck on the filter itself. I assume this means something is wearing out but what? Pump? Motor? I also want to change the hyd filter back in the engine compartment. Anyone have a part number? Thanks!

It really depends on how much you have. It sounds like pump wear. The pistons should have brass shoes, its probably just wear from them. If it still runs well, don't be too concerned. Its normal for them to have small shards of brass come off over time. That's why the filters are there
