Hi Fellas, I'm a "newb" ! Go easy OK ? I've had my '96 753 W/Kubota for a few Years, been a great Machine, never had any grief, or so I thought ? Until now ? Once, about a year ago while doing some scaping for myself, running along pretty quick when "BANG", the thing stopped like I'd hit a WALL ! It stalled the Engine, quit on the spot ! (shoulda wore the darn seatbelt) So, after exiting, and doing my best "NO, I didn't poo my pants" impression for my Neighbor, (who was watching from the distance), I re-entered, hit the key, it started right up, and everything was Fine ? I continued what I was doing, albeit, (window open to ventilate that strange smell), and finished the Day figuring I somehow must have "bumped" the Seat Bar or whatever ? Things were fine after that. I don't "work it", just odd jobs around here etc., but NOT alot of use. Then, 'bout 6 months ago, BANG again ! Same deal. WTF ! (shoulda wore the darn seatbelt) Now thats the Second Pair of Underwear STAINED ! The Wife's gonna start insisting I wear "depends" when I leave ! Then again Last Month ! No stain this time, but a nice "bubble" on my Bald Melon. (shoulda wore the darn seatbelt) So I did some reading on here, decided to have a look at the Brake Solenoid, which I replaced because the top was "Cracked" in the Plastic. The rest all looked Good, the "bolt thingy", etc. Feeling satisfied that I am the "Mechanically genius" worthy of a self-repair, and extremely confident that "YEP, I DA MAN" ! I stuffed my swelled "Noggin" in the Cab, and proceeded to go do some work. WRONG ! 3 hrs into it, you guessed it, I stuffed my swollen Melon AGAIN ! (shoulda wore the darn seatbelt) You Guys got any "Idea-rs" where I should look for this problem ? Special Note; I now notice, that sometimes when I lower the SeatBar, I don't get no lights on the BICS, and the thing won't budge, no CLICK or anything. I have to shut off, restart, then move SeatBar to get the Lights ? Any HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED BY ME, my "Noggin", and MY WIFE(laundry detail).

A couple of questions to help diagnois the problem.
Do you have the push to operate button?
Is the power light on when you say sometimes you have no lights at all on the BICS?

hey Thx Machinist ! No, NO "push to operate Button", not that I've evr had to use anywyas. It's just that sometimes, when I lower the seatbar, I only have the top "seat" light, but none of the lower "three", being "seatbar", "Brake", and "Valve". It takes all "four" to work. I have to resart again, then I get the '4".

First check the wiring connector to the sensor on the left side of the seat bar for crud or corrosion.
Make sure the sensor mounting bolt and hinge bolt are tight.
Check to make sure the keyed bushing magnet collar rotates with the seat bar.
Check for metal shavings and rust attached to the magnets.
Next time the light won't come on wiggle the wiring harness going to the sensor to check for broken or rubbed insulation.

I's start there too, if you say the lights won't come on straight away shows that you have a sensor issue. If the sender is out of alignment it will do this, it doesn't take much of a turn to do it either! i'd start with the sender, work from there.
When the brake engages, the machies sure do stop in a hurry don't they? it would make for an entertaining event for bystanders though. Others have looked like a bug splattered on the wind shield, sounds pretty close?

The most effective repair is to upgrade to a 'push to operate' BICS controller and eliminate the seat sensor all together. Not sure how much the kit is to upgrade....... On the earlier BICS the seat sensors were very touchy to get adjusted properly, sometimes a pebble near the seat rails or a little trash behind the seat will keep it from working properly.

On a machine i had, the seat was rotten, i glued the magnet and sender together. Never gave me any troubles.

The push to operate upgrade doesn't eliminate the seat bar sensor so it won't help Dirtlump.
Check the pivot bolts on the seatbar, near the sensor. If there is a loose bolt the sensor won't work properly. When you say you get no lights on the bics controller, is the power light on or absolutely no lights? Maybe check for corroded fuses in the fuse box.

Thanks for the Ideas Guys, I'm checking as I go. SO, it did it again, but this time I wasn't moving thank goodness ! I had a "Seat" light on the BICS I moved the Seatbar down, and I got a "SEATBAR" light, But, NO "VALVE" or "BRAKE" LIGHTS, and of course it wouldn't operate. It's getting worse, so sooner or Later I gotta narrow my search ? I've even started reading on here, and had "swapped" the Glowplug Relay for the Brake Relay, same same ! Any more ideas where I can check fellas ??

If the seatbar light comes on before the seat light there is a ?? second delay until the bics will unlock. I think the best fix would be, like Tazza said, secure the seat sensor magnet in the correct position to make the light stay on and thus eliminate that sensor from the equation....then see what happens

Those sudden stops are scary! I hit a 2" stump and thought I cracked my neck on the cab. After that, I always wear the seat belt whenever moving fast. I actually am afraid I'll hit a bump, bounce me into the air, the seat sensor will click off and the solenoid will slam me to an instant stop. -------- As for gluing the seat sensor in place, that (I believe) will then not let the traction lock function work. The traction lock button lets you sit on a backhoe and reach back and move the Bobcat with the joysticks without being in the Bobcat seat. I'm pretty sure this function doesn't work if the seat sensor is actuated. Otherwise I would have glued mine in place. ------- Now to the issue: I've noticed my 1995 751 occasionally does not produce a complete set of BICS lights. The symptoms are hazy now, as it hasn't happened in several months, but for a week or so it seemed to happen frequently. I bought another lap bar switch, but never put it in (wanna buy it?) because I got smarter and learned that I can easily troubleshoot that function by looking at the BICS panel. But I still remember some times when the seat light would be on, the lap bar light would be on, and no other lights would light up. Seemed to me to be a BICS problem. I wiggled the BICS plug, but it was tight and the symptoms didn't change. Then the problem evaporated. So I feel I too am operating on borrowed time. I did find that as a last resort, I could turn the machine off, then back on and the BICS panel would work and the solenoid would retract. ------- Somewhere in this forum in the past few years is the note on how to mechanically dismantle the stop solenoid. Keep that info handy, I had to use it when my "emergency brake" switch failed. I finally got the switch dismantled, cleaned, reinstalled and working again. I then stopped using it completely. ---- Bottom line, try to get a good handle on what the BICS lights are doing when the problem occurs. I never did do that well. But I wear my seat belt now, otherwise I might bump my head..... :) ---RC

On Friday I had a problem with my push to operate green button thingy. The seat bar light was the only thing to illuminate, turned out to be the panel itself was fu@#$ed. $400.00 part and was good to go. By the way the abrupt stops ...... I was travelling in high range ( 19 kmh) and hit the park brake switch instead of the hazard switch...thought I broke my knee. 19kmh to 0 in about 6 inches.

mistersweeper, how'd you troubleshoot the green button thingy panel? I'm always interested in that sort of thing. My nightmare scenario is having something like that happen when I'm on a sideways slope way down in the forest half a mile from any road. :) ---RC

I'm so sorry "19kmh to 0 in about 6 inches" i giggled.
Yet i know the pain, i really do. Glad you didn't break anything, even though it may have felt like it at the time.

I had been having this problem periodically for the last year. I phoned the bobcat dealer and he suggested "rolling" my finger around the green button. If that didn't work I'd need a new panel. He was right. Thats ok Tazza, I laughed it off once I got my bearings straight.

bobbie-g I had the same fear that I would be out working in woods and the BICS box would go bad so I bought a spare. I think it's cheap insurance since the nearest dealer is 50 miles away and they didn't stock the thing.
