I have a 1996 , 751 Bobcat skid steer. I blew out the seals in the left side lift cylinder. I rebuilt the cylinder and now it is time to fill up the reservoir with new oil. The service manual says to use Bobcat fluid P/N 6563328 OR 10W-30 class SE motor oil. SE is an obsolete oil and what is available is the class SN. My question is : Will the class SN be compatible with the 751 hydrostatic system without disolving seals and o-rings etc.? Thank you for any assistance.

Bobcat went away from saying 10w30 was OK. They have tightened to saying only Bobcat hydraulic fluid. Modern 10w30 is fine, that's all we use, all be diesel rated oil in our units at work.

I live in .au and run 20W50 without any issues.
BOBCATDAN: Do you think using regular hydraulic fluid (46 'weight') is ok to use? I ask because I tend to use it on almost all of my machinery, but I was never 100% certain that it was similar. Can you advise??

From what I heard from a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy, Bobcat fluid is close to a 20 weight. That's how secretive Bobcat is about their hydraulic fluid is. I'm bad at knowing hydraulic ratings by the 32 or 46 rating system. If 46 is 20 weight then I'd say it's fine. In first s/n break service manuals for S and T series machines, had a chart for all the oils recommend for the hydraulic system. The chart gave a lot of choices, but Bobcat fluid was the only OK'ed for the entire temperature range.

OK. It is strange when they are so cryptic like they have been. I guess, it is so they can sell more of their brand of fluid; kind of like when Jeep claimed their vehicle are "TRAIL-RATED"!!.

For what it's worth, I talked to a guy who had an older jug of the Bobcat oil, and he said it had Mobil DTE 15M on the label in small print as well. Mobil DTE 15M Has been replaced by Mobil DTE 10 Excel 46, which is an AW 46 hydraulic oil.

WOW!! That's good to know. It's just a good overall fluid.

"It's just a good overall fluid." Yep, and it is readily available at my local NAPA, $45/5-gal. I'm in a moderate climate, so use the AW46; but they have AW32 and AW68 too.
