My LS170 has the seat belt safety switch that locks the boom every time you get out. This has become a very annoying feature that causes me lost time during firewood season. Yes, I know that this is a safety feature and it's for my own good, but if it's possible I want to bypass this switch when working flat ground on my firewood. I'm in and out of the machine numerous times and I feel like I'm going to wear out the seat belt. Anyone willing to help will be greatly appreciated!

Not a big fan of this, but I will tell you how its done. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Pull the two wires from the seat belt coupler and run them to a toggle switch. Everytime you get in and out of the seat you have to toggle the switch.

Over the years there have many accidents caused by trying to save some time. I generally do not tell people what to do, but in this case I would stronly advise against bypassing any saftey equipment. Remember what ever you do your family has to live with the consequences.

Mike10, I do appreciate your concern for safety with these machines. With that being said, I just don't see it's purpose for SOME situations. I am an owner/operator, no one else gets on my machine, therefore I believe it to be my choice and my risk. When I'm working up my firewood I keep the seatbelt locked in behind my back in the seat while working. Having to unlock the belt and lock it back every single time I leave the seat is a waste of time and quite frankly a little overkill. I do use the seatbelt when working in steep, rough terrain, but otherwise it is a nuisance and not necessary in 90 percent of my working enviroment. Besides, the seat switch covers this. Anytime I leave my seat, the boom locks and now I have to toggle a 2 dollar switch as opposed to a god knows how much seat belt latch.

I leave the service switch in service mode when running my LS160 on the log splitter. That way I can reach in and turn the key without fastening the seat belt. The splitter is run outside the machine anyway.
If you wanted to have the foot pedals unlocked as well, ultimately seating in the seat and buckling the belt allow 2 things to happen. Power goes on to the key, so it can energize the starter solinoid. (this is bypassed by the service switch, but at the same time the foot pedal lock solinoids have the power supply to them interupted) and power goes to the lock solinoids on the hydraulic control valve. This solinoid pulls a locking pin out od each spool. (lift and tilt) allowing the spools in the valve and therefore the foot pedals to move.
The foot pedal can be bypassed by supplying power to the lock solinoids on the control valve with the key circuit or by installing another switch or the solinoids could be removed from the control valve and plugs installed to keep dirt out.
But as others have said it is your safety you must consider.
Regards
Ken
