I have a ls 180 with 4500 hrs and the reverse travel is slow on both sides. This started all at once and foward works fine. Any ideas???

Sounds like someone has been adjusting on the stops for the levers. It is unlikely anything internally would cause both sides to act up at the same time. Try moving the stop for reverse away from the lever. The stop is a flat piece of metal on the back side of the bellows at the bottom of the lever. It has one bolt holding in position. Loosen the bolt ans slide the stop back and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks Mike 10 checked stops and on closer inspection found the right pump lever is hitting the hyd. temp. sensor. Is it possible that the arm slipped or is it keyed? thad side is a little slower in reverse Thanks.

The arm probably did not slip. If you reach down to where the lever attaches to the pump shaft the shaft should be even or protrude slightly. I have not seen it in an LS machine but in the early LX885 machines dirt could get between the oil reservoir and the chain case which pushes the oil reservoir and sender closer to the lever.
Linkage adjustment is also critical on these machines. The vertical link attahced to the arm you are referring to is attached on the top end to another lever with three holes in it. Attach the link in the center hole. The best way to check that you are not overextending the travel of the linkage is to use an electronic shaft speed indicator. I am not sure about a single speed machine but on a two speed machine have the loader blocked up so the wheels are off the ground and run the machine in low speed and check the speed of the wheels. I set them to @ 68 RPM. Use the plate at the back of the lever to set the speed. The 68 RPM is both forward and reverse. The max speed recommended is 120 RPM in high speed.
