I am new here and posting on my experience with the hydraulic pump. Maybe it'll help someone else. I replaced the pump about a year ago. I noticed that these pumps don't come "complete" from the dealer, but rather, the back wall of the pump is the front wall of the hydrostatic drive pump. When I went to assemble. I noticed that the one bushing- bearing for the driven gear was badly worn. I called the dealer and found that it's not offered for sale. So I went ahead and mated the new pump up and went to work. Had good pressure and flow- for bout a day. It lost pressure bad till it finally quit with a screeching noise. Took pump apart- drive gear shaft was sheared. Now my solution. I took the worn bushing out of the hydro drive housing. Then I cut the aluminum casting apart very carefully to extract a still good and barely worn bearing from the cover side of old pump. Installed it in the housing. Now I'm ready to install new pump and flush out system. Does anyone have advice or see anything wrong with this procedure?

To know for sure, i'd need to see the bearing.
I would have thought that with it running in oil that it wouldn't have caused the break. You did say that it made a horrible noise like metal on metal before it died.
Hopefully someone else can offer advise too.

Your repair may work. Deere is notorious for those pumps. I think we put to or three sets on our 250 in 6000 hrs. The last time they went we limped it on the trailer and traded for a s590 bobcat

While I may not be completely understanding you. I have had no problem getting a complete hydrostat with gear pump twice from Deere for works 250. They last about 1500 hours before the input bearing fails and destroy the housing. By the time we notice the leak, its too late 200 series skidsteer are junk, were from new. Sell or scrap and buy a Bobcat. In 3300 hours, everything but the engine and the main frame have been replaced at least twice. Our 20,000 hour S220 Bobcat lost a drive motor at 14,000 and that has been about it. 7000 hours is about max we get out of any Deere skidsteer no matter the series.

Bobkatdan is right. I have a 1996 Bobcat of 28,000 ++ hours , never did I change drive motor or hydrostatic pump , 2 times I've engine overhaul and once I changed my gear pump . Once I changed all pins and bushing in the arm ... May these are all general repairs. The rest is just good maintenance

28,000 hours sure is impressive. The most i saw on here was a member with i thought 12,000 on his machine. It was on the second engine though.
