Hi all, I have been lurking here for a bit, I must say you all seem like a great group. Anyhow I recently purchased a bobcat 751 with a peugeot engine . Upon further inspection noticed it has a small hole in the block. I was told that it jumped time, and that all it would take to fix is putting a new connecting rod and bearing as the crank should be fine. And then add a plate to the block and weld it up. I know only enough about these machines to get me in trouble, however I am mechanically inclined with other types of engines. I guess what I am asking for is an opinion on which route to go here, I was told by the local steeler that the peugeot has a diffrent bell housing and drive train than a kubota and a peugeot reman is 5,200 dollars. Please help. By the way the machine and hydros are in excellent condition, and the engine as well only has 1,600 hours on it. Thanks in advance for any help or opinions.

Thought I'd replied to this, but evidently not. Sorry for the delay. I have a 1995 751C with Peugeot engine. Wish it were a Kubota, but the Pug runs fine at 2100 hrs. Bobcat so far has had every part I wanted for it, although pricey. I did find the glowplugs off the internet at $10 ea, instead of the $36 Bobcat wants. I have heard that Bobcat makes a Kubota retrofit kit, but haven't looked into it. I change the oil ever 50-80 hrs and keep clean air filters in it. Had the timing belt changed at about 1000 hrs, and I need to do it again. I think it's manageable, and I watched an old shade-tree mechanic tweak the timing after the last belt, really simple. I did have to replace the fuel pump, at $1400 at only 1000 hrs, but I think the only thing wrong with it was the lift pump (lift and hi pres are both in the same pump housing) so I could have had it rebuilt much cheaper. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the Pug. I think the worst part is having to pay Bobcat prices for parts. :-) ---RC
