Cranks but no start 259 D3 almost starts, but will not

So per the cat dealer, I have replaced the T in the top of the tank the complete transfer fuel pump assembly, new filter, etc., and the fuel rail
So I pulled up next to the work truck at the shop and filled up the machine and then a couple days later went to move it and it would not start it cranks and acts like it's gonna hit, but it seemed like it wasn't getting enough fuel, change the fuel filter Then changed the "t" restrictor in the top of the fuel tank. Then I did a volume and pressure test on my fuel pump. Volume was good pressure was at 8 pounds which is under the 12 pound spec so there you have it spend 750 bucks in your back online. NOT
New fuel pump absolutely no change still pranks and act like it wants to start so since I have replaced this motor already, I have a core so I went and pulled the rail off because the dealer said there was some valve on the end of that fuel rail got swapped out, made no difference I have no codes on the machine currently the only thing left mechanically is the injection pump. I just can't imagine after 500 hours that would be bad. Is the injection pump just a high-pressure pump that you put in it does it have to be timed like the old school injection Pumps?
I also replaced the electrical plunger that sticks out of the bottom of the injection pump and points towards the rear. I was assuming that was the fuel shut off, but that didn't help either.

So I forgot this little piece of information when I was trying to get it to start after I put the new fuel rail on I had the injector lines cracked so that I could purge the air out of the fuel rail and all of a sudden it started ran wide open about four seconds And then died and then wouldn't start again not really sure why that happened but I thought I was gonna lose a motor for a second
 
My 259D is in the same situation. if I use starting fluid, it will start right up and run perfectly. Run it for 4 hours, turn it off and try to restart and it just cranks. Did you find a solution?

You should never use starting fluid to start your engine, it can bend your push rods break your pistons and cause major damage. I have rebuilt a few engines because of that issue and I have replaced too many engines because of this issue. Just saying

Same here but mine requires a small spritz of starting fluid and it will crank every time. Without SF it will not fire.

Did you find the problem? I have been told high pressure pump? I have a 2019 259D with the same issue. A spritz of starting fluid and it starts right up. must use it every time or it will not crank.

Spent $2000 on two Cat service calls and $600 on a new fuel transfer pump. Finally drained the tank and put in new fuel. Problem solved. Mine is a 236B2. Plug for the fuel tank was in the frame and hard to get at. Hope this helps.

Sad state a Cat tech would not try an aux fuel supply in a situation like that.
Lesson for all, if you have a hard start issue always make sure you have clean fuel before spending a lot of money on changing out parts. JMHO

Fuel transfer pump is new. Most people are saying High pressure pump but I am hoping something else as that will be big $$$ as I cannot do it myself. Thank you for the info.
 
This SF discussion reminds me of the old John Deere tractor farmer tales.
If you used sf once on a JD, they wouldn't fire up without it.. I never believed it, but seemed to ring true in the field.
I haven't owned a single can of starting fluid in decades.

While I have heard and experienced the same thing such is not the case here.
 
If we need to use anything at all to help get a deisel engine to fire. Which isn't very often. We use a spray silicone. An old tech told me about that years ago.
Doesn't have that teeth grinding rattle effect normal starting fluid has
 
Depending on the temperature outside wd40 works good on small diesels, make sure the wd40 is warm though, I used to put it on the dash of the truck with the defrost and heat on, if your close to hot water in a shop it works good also.
