I have a Case 410 skid steer that had engine failure. I've looked into rebuilding it but the cost to do so is pretty expensive. I don't have a problem spending good money but considering the unit only has a little over 500 hours it seems like throwing good money away. I would like to know if anyone can give me other re-power options. I'm not a diesel tech to speak of mainly light truck gas mechanic. I just don't know what to look for when it comes to re-power options. I don't mind fab work but would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks Currently the 410 has the Shibuara N884 engine non turbo. Lost Oil Pressure and crank is bad as well as the cylinder walls.

Work out how many HP it was, you may be able to drop in a Kubota V2203 that you can get off ebay pretty cheap. The issue is space though.
Loss of oil pressure does cause a few issues..... I assume you have done the sums for the parts/machining?
A Kubota will run you about 2k, potentially far less than the rebuild of the old engine.

Yeah, I've priced out rebuilding the engine and its expensive. I even thought about dropping bigger money and buying a new complete engine from Case but after reading all the problems with the Shibaura it scares me. My skid steer is like new and only has 500 hours on it and I really like it. I will only use it on the farm and not commercial use but not sure what to do. In regards to using a different engine I dont even know where to begin. I was hoping someone else has already been through this. I see lots a problems with the engine failures and wasnt sure if a new replacement had the issues fixed or it's still a poor quality engine?

I haven't heard anything bad about that engine, hopefully its not a known flaw in them...
I'd try and lean towards a Kubota if it will fit, they are a good reliable engine and parts are decently priced.
