853 has AF-3 code

I have borrowed my neighbors 853 and It displays a BOSS code AF3 that also has a beeping sound after I increase the throttle. The beeping ends after a few moments and the machine operates normally. The filters are fresh. This is a pretty rough machine with a lot of wires in the back door loose for the lights. I also saw the owner remove the relay in the start circuit and jump the plug in order the get the key to engage the solenoid at the starter. The relay seemed to be bad, and I don't know what the relay was for in addition to the starter circuit. Any ideas? rick roberts
 
Could AF be for air filter?
I have seen vacuum sensors with wires on them to alert you when the air cleaner is plugged and needs replacing or cleaning. Unlike the standard mechanical ones that you need to press to reset.
You did say it has new filters but not sure if you are talking only oil and not air.
Just a thought, i don't know the BOSS codes so its just a guess.

Codes are as follows
ECL engine coolant level
EC engine coolant temp
EP engine oil pressure
ES engine speed
AF air filter
H Hydrostatic fluid temp
b Battery (show on display in Lower Case)
FUEL fuel level
HF Hydraulic Filter
HP Hydraulic Fluid pressure
All these codes will be followed by a number, not all numbers apply to all codes
Example 1 is the engine shutdown code but there is no FUEL 1 or No AF1 because these are not serious failures.
Numbers are as follows
1 Shutdown engine in 30 seconds
2 Warning
3 wire not connected
4 wire shorted
5 High sensor voltage
6 Sensor no signal
7 Sensor out of range
If you see some sort of jiberish on the display you likely have a bad ground .
There are also code number 1.1 2.1 and 2.2
EC has a 1.1 shutdown and a 2.1 Warning code
ES hase a 2.1 warning code
b has a 2.1 warning bad battery and a 2.2 Warning battery voltaage
Therte are up to 4 relays
starter, glow plugs, park brake , not sure on 4th , I think it the fuel shut off soliniod on the Kubota engine models

A friend has a 853 that if run at more than a fast idle will display a hp1 code and then die shortly. The Bobcat people evidently have not been able to help. He has replaced the hydraulic pump. This has gone on a long time now, he did open the boss box and checked for loose grounds or other gremlins. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Those types of problems are common with the Boss as it gets older. Sender trouble, wireing, poor conections and bad grounds, faiiled computer.
I cured one but tighetening the screws on the circuit board inside the boss box. But it was throwing jiberish codes up on the screen then dieing.
It might be best just to put a idiot light or guage in to monitor the charge pressure and unhook the boss from that function. If you hook the two wires to that sensor together it closes the loop and the computer sees it as a sensor under normal operating condition. If you get the fault then it is a wiring problem or computer not hydraulic or sensor related.

Thanks Ken , I'll have him do that it sounds like a solution. You don't have to send any more of that polar air down if you don't want, we have enough now.

Thank you - It would make sense with the condition of the wiring. I was thinking of buying the unit if it was real reasonable. I have been using a "brush Shark" cutter on it and it seems to perform the way I need it to however. It seems to lose hydro fluid but I don't see it leaking. Could be leaking onto the muffler as it seems to smoke after heavy use, and I see a wet spot on the cooler. Thanks again for the help rick

New to forum. Would anyone know where the sensor is when the Boss System displays HP7, sensor out of range code,for an 853? Thanks, the beeping is driving me crazy!!

Generally those sensors are right at the hydraulic filters which on my 853 are under the seat on the operators left

Ken, thanks so much for replying to my question. One more thing, when it states they are "out of range", does that mean physically they some how moved, or is more that they need replaced? Thanks again, Jeff

That just means that its not in the "normal operating parameters" Say your charge pressure should be between 100 and 120PSI, if its 99 or lower it will go off, same with 121 or higher. It can be as simple as a bad sender unit.

Back in July posted that my 853 was showing a HP-7 code and recieved good info on problem. After changing out the charging pressure switch it's now showing a HP-4 code with is "shorted" code. Any ideas where I go next with this problem?

You may need to check your wiring?
