Two questions.
1. My starter is spinning, but doesn't always engage. Is this solenoid replaceable or do I need a whole starter?
2. After sitting a few months, the 742 only runs on choke. What do I need to do to fix this?

Moe than likely it is the Bexdix drive on the starter gear rather than the solenoid. Reman starters are not too hard to find. Best to start there.

Fuel pump is ,again likely, failing.or else the cam lobe for the pump has wear. Ethanol dissolves the OE fuel pump diaphragm in pretty short order. Best to replace the OE mechanical pump with a Carter P4070 Electric pump.
Do not use gasoline with ethanol content -Craigb93

Check your fuel pump pressure first. Easy to do and will tell you if it's an issue. If fine probably a carb rebuild, which is dead simple on the Ford motors. As Craig stated, ethanol is tough on the fuel system, pumps and carbs...

To keep things simple I didn't mention a carb clean/overhaul for now. 742 will gravity feed fuel for the most part. OP states machine will start/run w/ choke on so fix starter and clean up fuel pump and fuel quality issues.
Neglected to mention these machines have a high starter load with the hydraulic pump and fan directly connected. They need 2-Ga or 1-Ga battery cables instead of the OE 4-Ga stuff. A Battery rated @ ~700 CCCAmps while you re-do the starter. is the way to go.

Thanks guys. Looking for a place to rebuild the starter right now. I will remove the carb and give it a cleaning. I'll check back in and give the results!
Thanks all!

If you have a good automotive machine shop in your area they can either do it or recommend a good place.
