Hi, new to this. I have an early 80's ? 742 with the ford 1.6. Years ago i replaced the points and such after breaking off a spark plug and had to remove the head to repair. That's when I learned that it's basically a 1.6 1973-1974 pinto motor. My question is that I understand that you can replace the points with an "ignitor" and eliminate the points and condenser. Do you still use the vacuum advance? Is it easy to do? Does this work? Do you have to replace anything else? Do you have to remove the distributor? What part number is it? Thank you so much!

Yes.., and a very good idea. I swapped mine with the one below. It was half the cost of the Pertronix kit even with shipping. Note that the Petronix kits are excellent as well. I kept the vacuum advance connected.

As a side note, I have purchased many parts for the Kent motor from the UK, as they ran them longer in the UK and also had a racing series for them. Search UK eBay next time you are looking for a Kent part. You might be surprised at the savings .
