    Another John Deere/Kawasaki problem!

I'm working on a JD 757 zero turn with a Kawasaki FH721D-AS04 25HP engine. Here's the problem: It's burning oil like there's no tomorrow. I did a compression test. Spec, according to one website is 8.1:1 (approximately 120psi). That seems a little low since I got a reading of over 150psi on both...

    John Deere 870 Tractor clutch

I'll give that a shot. Thanks.

    Scat Trak 1750 ring gear

Just FYI in case you run into this: Changed the starter ring gear the other day. No book. Figured out that you have to de-mount the engine, radiator, and main pump to facilitate this job. They don't have to be removed, just de-mounted and shoved about 2" to allow room for removal of the...

    John Deere 870 Tractor clutch

Hey, gang! Long time no see! Hope this finds all well. Here's my problem: A friend asked me to look at the clutch on his JD 870 compact utility tractor. It seems the clutch is stuck and won't disengage. He can still use the machine, but it's getting to be a pain in the behind for him. Any...

    Here's a good one

Problem solved! Not the coil, but related to it. I found a combination of a weak spark plug and a severely corroded plug wire terminal end where it connects to the plug. Got a new plug, new terminal end and cut off the corroded end of the wire. Put it together and that did it. Like you said...

    Here's a good one

I think I mis-spoke. It will shut off when you hit the switch. What I meant to say was that it won't just shut off by itself when the malfunction arises; it just keeps on going. It's after you manually shut it off with the switch that you have to wait so long for it to fire up again. I did check...

    Here's a good one

I'm going to find out about an electronic module inside the coil. Perhaps the heat throws off the timing? But what really baffles me is the fact that it won't shut down on it's own!

    Here's a good one

Thanks, Tazza. I think I'll take the coil and plug to a shop and have it tested. As for dribbling gas into the carb, I shot ether into it in lieu of pouring gas. I figure it's the same. It won't even burn ether, so I didn't bother with gas. I'll let you know what I find.....

    Here's a good one

How about this one: Shindaiwa hedge trimmer, little 2-stroke. Will run all day long - as long as you don't shut it off! If you do, it takes AT LEAST a half-hour of cooling before it will fire up. But, it will not shut off on it's own. While trying to restart: Tested spark plug - good, strong...

    Backpack blower

The fuel cap vent is good. This one is really aggravating. Ran for about 20 minutes again and it loses rpm for about the last 30 seconds before dying (I forgot to mention that at first). Still runs smoothly, just loses rpm. I don't get it. I searched some other discussion forums and found...

    Backpack blower

Thanks for the advice. I'll check that. I haven't had a chance to get back on it yet, but I'll do that.

    Backpack blower

Guys, I am working on a RedMax EBZ5100 backpack blower that runs for about 15-20 minutes and dies. After a cool-off of about 10-15 minutes it will run for about 5-7 more minutes. Then it dies and you stick a fork in it 'til the next day. Here's what I have done so far: New carburetor. New fuel...

    Zetor tractor

Thanks for the info, Skid. I'll study that links when I start the job. I will be on vacation for about two weeks before I start the job, so it will be a little while before you hear from me on this, but I'll keep you posted once the job is underway. I saw what looks like a couple of brake...

    Zetor tractor

I have been hired to do a brake job on a Zetor 5211 farm tractor in about 2 weeks. My only other experience with Zetor has been an oil change and a water pump replacement - easy jobs. Anybody familiar enough with Zetor (a Czech company) to either advise me or lead me to a service manual? There...

    Kohler

Tazza, thanks for the advice. I did shorten the fuel line, but that didn't help. But, it would run fine if I parked it sideways on my hill with the tank uphill from the pump. Turns out that what it was was this: the carb WAS sucking air via the fuel pump (mechanical diaphragm type) because the...
