Hey, gang! Long time no see! Hope this finds all well. Here's my problem: A friend asked me to look at the clutch on his JD 870 compact utility tractor. It seems the clutch is stuck and won't disengage. He can still use the machine, but it's getting to be a pain in the behind for him. Any information would be most helpful. And, if anyone has any PDF info that he/she can email me, I would be eternally grateful! I looked at the price of a manual and I don't have enough equity in my house to buy one! Thanks!

Here's place to download the manual for $9.95

Did the tractor sit for a while with no use? Sometimes rust will cause the clutch to stick if they've been sitting. It happens all the time with old tractors. Try chaining it off to a large tree, put it in gear, push the clutch pedal down, start the engine and see if it pops free when the slack comes out of the chain. If it does then you can polish the rust off the pressure plate and flywheel by slipping the clutch a couple of times.

I'll give that a shot. Thanks.
