453 Bobtach?

G'Day Friends I have being looking into expanding the usefulness of my little 453 but notice the Bobtach on the front is different from all the other bobcats, not sure about the mini's like the MT series. Mine has one handle on top and locks from the sides, all the others lock from the bottom? When looking at attachments do I look for ones for a mini MT series, or do I need an adaptor plate? I have looked and can not find a an adaptor plate so what are my options? I am looking at a nice little hoe attachment on auction at the moment but its universal fitting looks nothing like what I have or can work with. The bucket came with the machine and the forks I built to suit, so this is the first time I am looking into this. Cheers

Excuse my ignorance, but weld on to where? Do you weld them to your bobtach? or to the attachment? Personally I see neither option to be acceptable, as a slip on off adaptor plate would be much better. With the machine o I look for Mini attachments? Cheers

As you are finding out the early 400 series Bobcats used a smaller version of the Bobtach than the standard one on everything else.
There are 2 options.
1)Modify every new attachment you buy to the smaller version.
2)Buy a new universal quick attach and adapt it to your lift arms.

Thanks for the Information, problem is, there is nobody here in Oz, all these guys don't ship to Aus. besides the 453, which other machine uses that type of hitch? the 463 and S70 look to be different, even the minis don't look the same, So much for versatility! cheers

The 440, 442, 443 and 453 used the small version. The 463 has the standard size.
You might be able to find a used standard size one from a wrecked or burnt machine and adapt it.

i think i'm correct in saying that the bobtach is the same, just narrower....a lot of my attachments have 2 sets of holes on the bobtach mount to take the normal and the narrow.....i think you just have to cut a couple slots to recieve the wedge pins

Totally different, locking pins on the smaller Bobtach are horizontal instead of vertical. I'll post a picture in the morning.

Yep, that's exactly what I have, fits only its original bucket and the forks I made and nothing else. Over here I cannot find an adaptor, just crazy. To hijack my own thread a little, when looking for attachments should I be looking only at the mini ones, like the Torro, Kanga, Dingo size, the machine looks mighty small to run the others. what I would like is skidhoe and a 6 way dozer blade for it, I wonder if the fitting is similar to the 453? Cheers

As far as I know the mini brands you mentioned use a mounting with vertical pins.
They did make a back hoe attachment for these small machines. I think it was model number 905. The main problem with larger attachments is the operating capacity of the 453. Its listed as 600 lb. for the 453 and 700 for the 453F.
The bucket in my pictures was a pin on bucket for a machine without a BobTach. I cut the old mountings off, made new mounts and welded them to the bucket. This is what I plan to do anytime I buy any other attachments.

Once again many thanks for the information. I wasn't thinking so much of a full backhoe attachment, more of the SkidHoe/digger style, from what I have seen and read they work very well. I still think that the 453 is very underrated for what it is, just recently and its a shame I didn't get a photo of it, I moved my Bridgeport mill with it, We stripped it down first but still the base and the knee we moved as one piece, that's 550kg's there. mind you it was a balancing act on the front wheels but wasn't a struggle at all. Going back to the original question, does anyone know the dimensions of the 463, S70, or the MT 50/55 machines Bobtach's. I realise that they have bottom locking pins and mine has side locking. The 463 and S70 have the standard style BobTach. The MT machines might be different but its been a while since I looked at one so I can't tell you how much.
I have a copy of the SAE standard for the universal quick attachment but its a PDF file so I can't attach it here. Send me a email and I'll send the file to you.

The older 300 series used that Bobtach as well.(310,313,371) If your looking for a wider selection of attatchments, your best bet is to adapt a newer bobtach to your machine whether it be a salvage piece off a 463 or S70, or a aftermarket job. Beats changing the mount on every attatchment you get.

I have made adapters for my 440b that convert it to both a full size bobtach, and to the 463/S70/MT5X style bobtach. Just to clarify, the 463, S70 and MT machines all use the same style of bobtach. It is the same side profile as a full size bobtach, but is 35" wide instead of 44" wide. If you look in the Attachments section of the Forum, there is a post on my late model mini bobtach adapter, with pictures. I bought the base bobtach from Skidsteer Solutions, and added the pre-463 style interface to the back of it. HTH - SR

I looked at your thread last night and you have basically nailed what I wish to do. The smaller of the conversion plates for the S70 looks right at home on the 440. I looked at the link for the adaptor and contacted them, they will ship to Oz but the price is horrendous. Again I'm back to square one where I cant find a converter for the smaller bobtach in Oz the closest thing I've found at the right money is a adapter from a Terex PT30 to full size but the more I look at it the more I want the PT30, the other thing is the full size hitch looks out of place on the smaller machine, I may just have to live with it.
