2001 ls 170. It's in desperate need of a new seat. Messicks shows two different kinds of seats, a standard and a suspension seat. How do you tell the difference? I dont have a clue which one mine has, the website doesnt give any details.

If you have a knob at the front of the seat to adjust for your weight then you have a suspension seat. Another way to tell is the standard seat without suspension is a one piece seat, no seam where the back meets the seat cushion. If it appears the lower cushion is separate from the back cushion you have a suspension seat.

Well, it appears that I have the suspension seat which is crazy expensive. Do I have to replace it with the same seat or can I use the standard seat? Could I also use a generic seat like from northern tool?

What is wrong with your seat? You will not be happy to go back to a standard seat. Installing any other seat will cause you problems getting the seat switch to work. If you just need cushions then I would just replace the cushions. If you need suspension parts they are also available but you may need to look in a different model parts catalog to find them. Either way it will be better to just replace the parts that are needed.

Yes, its just the cushions. I wasn't aware you could get just the cushions. I thought the whole assembly had to be bought. Thanks for your help once again Mike10!

There are two different suspension seats. One uses a one piece cushion and back, though it looks like two separate parts, That part number is 8724837. The other seat uses a separate cushion and back and those numbers are 87741863 for the back and 87741862 for the seat. Before you order verify the numbers with your dealer. You will need to inspect your seat to see which seat you have. Putting your hand in between the two cushions should tell you.

After looking at both seat a bit more clarification is needed. The single piece cushion and back have a hard plastic outer shell that supports both the back and seat cushion. It also has a triangle shape adjustion knob.
The two piece back and cushion have a round knob and no plastic support. Looking at the seats alone you can not tell which is which by the gap in the cushions.

Mike10, I deeply appreciate your help but after looking up the cushions it's still too expensive. It will cost almost $400 just to replace the cushions. Guess I'll just d uct tape em up let it ride. Again I appreciate your help.
