Brand new to the forum and brand new to the skid steer family. I'm looking for a backhoe to fit my Bobcat 642B. What models will fit this skid steer and what type of modifications would I need? Thanks in advance. Bobcatmike

Thanks. I couldn't find it in the forum.
The search function can be a little funky. If you do a search and it returns no results, hit the search button again and it normally will show results.
If you find a backhoe try and make sure you get the mounts that bolt on to the machine. Many times people sell the backhoe but leave the mounts on the machine because they didn't know they go with it.

i have a 643 with the 907. its just the right size. you could also get the hook mounts and use the newer 607 backhoe. the hooks are a much nicer setup and it holds the hoe higher than the the old ball mounts so you can drive up and over curbs and stuff.

Thank you both for the advice and assitance. Now all I need is to find a good used hoe.

I just "won" a 607 hoe from eBay. haven't picked it up yet. The photos show "trailer ball" style attachments. Of course my Bobcat doesn't have anything like that on the front end. What type of brackets do I need to use? Any pictures of what they would look like? What modifications do I need to do to my machine?

if it has the trailer balls, then it is the 907, not the 607. in which case you need to find a set of the ball mount brackets. its basically an angle iron with a 2" ball welded to it. ask your local bobcat dealer, they could have a used set.

It's a 607 and has arms that look like they attach using some kind of hooks. Here is a link to the pictures. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271005981467&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:3160

Yep that is a 607 backhoe which uses the hook mounts on the outside of the lift arms.

SR posted this previously and this is what you need:

BTW, I think $2200 is a really good price for a hoe in such nice shape. Congrats.

The lift arms on my Bobcat don't look like there is any place to bolt the mounts to. Do I need to drill holes or weld on the brackets?

and 6 or 7 series stuff is usally interchangable because they are still the same body of the machine, just less power and counterweight
Backhoe arrived today. Used Uship and got a great deal to deliver it because the shipper was deadheading my way. I ordered the mounts that were suggested. Shipping the mounts was almost as expensive as shipping the hoe! Just waiting on the mailman befoe I start playing in the sandbox. Thanks all.

Hey BCM, I'm always looking for cheaper ways to ship. I saw that you shipped a 1000 lb. backhoe for the same cost as mounts. How much did it cost to ship the hoe and is Uship easy to use?

Mahans7
It cost $140 to ship the hoe from Philly to Southern MD. I couldn't have driven there and back pulling a trailer for that price. Tolls eat you alive.
I just happened to hit it right on the right day. I requested a delivery day of Tuesday and he was headed this way on Tuesday, so his gas was already paid for.
Uship has worked well for me. It is easier than calling around getting estimates. AND the more flexible you are with pickup and delivery dates, the cheaper the bids. I've used them twice. Both times with great results.
They have some rules. Which I found out by breaking them. Can't put your phone number in your email negotiations. It is to easy then for shipper and shippee to go around the Uship fees.
Also be wary of low bids. Check out the bidder and their feedback.
