What is a 763 worth ?

I'm still tracking down the exact year. The machine was a United Rentals machine that was purchased from that non profit I have been dealing with. They used it some for debris removal and brush cutting. It has the buttons on the handle grips if that tells anyone anything about it as far the the model. I think the sticker said e or f series. It appears to me that the machine is less than 10 years old. The machine has 1900 hours on it. The kids at the non profit painted grafitti art onthe damn thing which I'm really not concerned with. I operated the machine and it starts up without hesitating no smoke at all. All around mechanically good it seems. The hydraulic system is another story. When I let off the handles to stop the machine would continue to creep forward and twice it crept backwards where you could hear the hydraulics engaged it was clearly not just the machine creeping along. I assume it may be the control valaves. as that what makes sense to me. What do you all think it is? How hard and expensive is it to do yourself? Where is it located as in what has to be removed to get to it to change? With all this said what would be the average price this machine is worth?
 
I am not completely familiar with that particular model however it sounds like an okay deal. 1900 hours is probably the highest I would go for something that was a rental and then operated by random people who dont know what they are doing completely which im sure was the case at the non profit. lol. Id just be worried that the thing got abused alot already, that would be my only concern. Figure all the united rental hours, the operators didnt really care, cause its not their machine. All the non profit hours were probably by people who dont really know TOO much about tractors and abused it. The grafiti is kinda a sign of how they treat their equipment... :-/
As far as the hydraulic creeping, thats a simple adjustment. sometimes the control sticks simply are out of adjustment so that when they are in the "straight up" position they are actually making the machine go forward or back. Mine had a VERY bad creep forward when I bought it. a 9/16" socket and about 15 minutes and it was fixed. lol.
i just did a search on the ritchie brothers auction house past 12 months sales records. They have sold 763's for anywhere between 4,000 USD and 10,000 USD. So, based on what you have said about the machine, if you cant get it for between 4 and 5k, id check out an auction house.

Yes that does help. If the lowest 1 you found was 4000.00 than I will offer them around 2000.00 as they are just looking to dump apparently and considering the paint and that it needs work well the rest is history. I appreciate your response and yes it does help. I hope super Tazza comes along though as he always has the exact answers on the machines lol. Does anyone know if the adjustment on the 763 is that easy and how hard it is to get to and adjust?

To adjust you'll have to lift the cab. Then you will have to move the sticks around to orient yourself with the whole arrangment a little bit. You will see some steel "blocks" that slide against a rounded piece. The blocks have 2 bolts going into them. You loosen the bolts, then adjust the blocks around so that the part on the actual hydraulic actuator is straight up and down when the sticks are returned to the "center" position.....
I know that sounds confusing, but if you are mechanical at all, and just play around with it, you will figure it out within 30-45 minutes. lol. I know I did with no books or help.
Also, no matter what year the machine is, they still should use a similiar kind of adjustment. I have an OLD mid 80's 743 and a 2005 s205. They all use a similiar STYLE adjustment. yes alot has changed on the machines, but the adjustments are all still similiar ideas.

when you are adjusting the steering make sure that the 'triangle' arms are tight on their shafts, and that the centering spring and bushings aren't too sloppy. oh and make sure that all 4 wheels are in the air for safety. As far as what year it is...If you look at the fuel lines near the engine there is a date of manufacture on the black hose...this gives a good idea on when the machine was built....if the hoses are original, which they probably are with only 1900 hrs.

Another issue was a poorly maintained fan gearbox that was going bad, but I replaced it with a new one for about 100.00. You can generally find the year on the ID plate at the rear of the machine, if it is still there. Machines after the year 2000 have the triangular lights on top of the cab corners, while older ones have the more traditional bolted-on lights.

Price wise, i can't help you much. Over here in Australia they fetch quite a bit for something with low hours and good paint.
The steering adjustment is a snap. As has been already said, block it, lift the cab and adjust the alloy arms on the pump. I can't remember what side you need to work from first... but i *think* its the left, the opposite end to the centering spring on the plate on the top. Loosen them both but you need to adjust the end one first. The stop shouldn't have any wear marks in it, if it does you can flip the plate over and should have a fresh flat side to use. Same with the round pucks on the triangular arms on the pump. They can get rotated. Work from one side, ensure the stop is firmly against the two pucks, you don't want any space when you adjust the other side. You want them to both sit flat or it can creep.
