So I am in process of an engine upgrade. I have searched a few different forums and have not seen much on swapping a v2203 in place of the v1902. Long story short my 1902 gave out on me and I happened across a low hours 2203 out of a carrier reefer unit so I figured what's to loose. I am at the point now where my old engine is out and I have the oil pan swapped over I also added on my stock fuel filter since the 2203 was lacking one. I am now working on the bell housing and from what I see is the only dimensional differance in these two motors. Yes the glow plugs andr injectors are positioned different but I think you know what I am saying. Anyhow The 2203 has a slightly larger flange that retains the oil seal. This I was preparred for as it was the only information I could find on the other forums about any differences. However the bolt pattern for the bell housing is also bigger. Now I do not have a milling machine but a burr bit will have to do I need to open up the center of the bell housing to fit the larger seal and I will need to slot the holes to accomidate the larger bolt pattern. Luckily the far two top And two bottom holes line up and do not need to be slotted so this will keep every thing lined up and tru Does that make sense. I will post some pics to show in detail the modifications but for now I have to take a break from my project for camping and the holiday weekend Regards

I thought they would just bolt up, i see no problem opening the holes up a little, just make sure the bolts are done up nice and snug though. You don't want it rattling loose and vibrating on you.

Yup the bolts are off about half a hole. I also had to drill a hole for the dipstick as the carrier unit had the huge square pan with the fill spout and dip stick in the pan. So I am going to swap valve covers as well so I keep the original fill spout. One nice plus is the oil filter mount is a little different as it comes off the front gear cover and does a 90deg. As the original comes straight out I am sure this was for clearance as them motors ar mounted sideways in the carrier units any how the carrier unit is set up for a huge oil filter so I like that. Again I will post pics when I get back to it . Yes definately don't want the bolts shaking loose thinking some blue lock title should do the trick. I don't think I want to use the red but I guess maybe they are a good size bolt.

I finally got some more time in on my project and here are the pics of the bell housing modifications. You can see where I had to make clearance for the aluminum housing and how I had to slot the bolt holes luckily the 4 outer bolts were the same and the locator pin was in the spot. Having issues posting pics from my I pad. Any tricks for this forum?

You need to host the pimages on a file sharing site like photo bucket then link them here. Not sure how to get images to show up with apple devices, but if you can post a link, we can at least load the images :)

Bell housing modifications Finish up and it runs great needs a little fine tuning on the throttle but the maiden voyage was a success I will post some more pics of the final product later. Pics link of the bell housing modifications http://s1042.photobucket.com/user/dasnyder5/slideshow/

Looks good, you really didn't need to open the bolt holes much to make it fit.
Glad its working as it should.
