I bought a used 1800 hours 2006 JD 317 skid steer 2 weeks ago. I've used it a little moving some top soil, maybe 3 hrs total. Today is a hot day, first 90 degree day here in Toledo Ohio. I went to start it this afternoon and it will not turn over. The control panel shows the 'low oil pressure' light on. Any recommendations? Do I have a major problem? Should I change out the oil and filter and see if that helps? Should I get it to my local dealer? Thanks in advance, Mac

The low oil light is on because the engine is not running. It simply maybe a dead battery. You can put a jumper on it, or take a wrench and try to turn the engine over. If the engine is free, try an jump it. Battery cables could be the cause. I bet the worst it could be is a starter. Maybe a safty interlock, like a seat belt snsor. For shits and giggles, check the fuses, behind a small cover by the throttle. The 4024 is not bad engine, I have never heard of one having bottom end problems. Injector pumps is another thing, but that said, it should start.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. That makes sense the oil pressure light would be illuminated when it isn't running,, but in my previous dozen or so times when starting.. I fasten the belt, and hit the parking brake light to the mid position. At that time I only had two lights on the control panel . One of them the hydralic off and the other the parking brake. I never remember seeing three lights on. Now when I go to start, I have three lights - the third is this low oil pressure light. I read around that if the oil pressure is determined too low, it stops the engine from starting. I am going to try again, but I think there might be a problem ?

I found the problem, it was operator error. I didn't have the brake engaged and the low oil pressure light was deceving me. THanks
