Hello, I need some help trying to diagnose a small hydraulic leak on my 2002 S250. serial #520711001 & Above. The machine has foot or hand controls and 2900 hours. I'm the new owner of this machine and by looking at the bowels of this machine Im guessing this leak has been happening for YEARS. I power washed and cleaned up under the cab the best i could and then let it dry out. I believe the leak is coming from the hydraulic control valve (advanced hand control system). I say this be cause because when checking it out I located two green plastic caps that sit vertical on what I would think is the back side of the valve as it sits in the machine. This is above the right drive motor as you sit in the cab. The diagrams I've looked at lead me to this particular valve because of the two plastic caps. I dont know the purpose of the caps as they dont look like they protect anything?? Anyways.......I found oil leaking from the green cap area and both had oil in them when I slid them off. Anyone know if this is a common leak area or what i may be in for? I've been told that the valve may possibly have to be respooled????? After looking at the diagram of the valve I understand there are a lot of variables to what could be causing this leak. I know for a fact its not leaking from the top or the bottom. I also think it leaks whether the machine is running or not. Thanks in advance for the help

Sounds like it's just bad seals. Over time the seals that seal the spools can leak.
If it has hand and foot controls, i suspect you will need to remove the actuators to gain access, i don't know wha tthe procedure for doing this is, as you will need to calibrate things after you have changed them. I have only ever worked on mechanical units, they are hard to access, but straight forward to work on.
Seal kits can be bought from Bobcat

Thanks Tazza! Im sure this isnt an urgent fix but does anyone know how detailed this repair is? What seal kit I may be looking at to purchase? As you can tell Im not to mechanically inclined. Thanks again

I only ask about which seal kit because I see a couple different seal kits on the parts diagram

There should be a seal kit for the entire control valve or a kit per segment.
If you can work out what segment is leaking, you can re-seal just that one, but if one is leaking, the other may not be too far off, so it can make sense to do the whole unit then you know you should be right.

dude dealers do this repair quick and relatvy cheap typicaly 3 hrs labour. @ 20 bucks in parts so youre looking at less than 400. so now 400 bucks is 400 bucks. so lets ask the guys who have done it themselves if they had it to do over ?would they spend the money. or how long did it take them.? there is an existing post of walk thru of control valve reseal. its pretty simple stuff, but the first time you do one some choice cuss words

Never hurts to get a quote, go from there.
I did the seals in my S150, it wasn't as bad as i had expected, took me a few hours, I'd do it again if i needed to, but the dealers over here can be quite hungry. Parts prices are more than double that of our American comrades.

I picked up the two seals and one o-ring per spool today from Bobcat. About $26 for the six pieces. Guy said I probably didnt need the o-rings but I got em anyway. Bobcat said 4-5 hrs to do the job @ $90 /hr I have a heavy equipment mechanic to do the job, I just gotta get in line behind his other side jobs.

One thing that pisses me off is when people get on here and ask questions about their problems and once answered they never update to say what exactly the problem was and what exactly the fix was. So here is an update on my leaky valve. THANK YOU Tazza!!!!! My mechanic changed the seals and orings in my lift and tilt spools and that fixed my leak. He charged me $250 USD. Thanks again!

Glad you got it done and it's all fixed :)
