Hi guys,
trying to workout bugs in an LX565..now it won't start. Bluish smoke comes out exhaust. What could cause a no start in this case. I assume all seat switches, fuel solenoid, air in lines are all fine due to smoke/fuel when it cranks? maybe low compression..injector timing off..but what else?. This might be a stupid question but if a diesel engine cranks and shows signs of fuel exiting the cylinders , the no start cannot be electrical..yes or no?

They for sure are NOT working. there is no power to the "rail" but on a 70 degree day would it matter?
Yes, it matters even on a 70 degree day.
The job of the glow plugs is to pre-heat the air going into the cylinder to give it a head start on heat from compression. If the air temp starts out to low or your compression isn't quite up to snuff then the additional heat from compression won't be enough to get the air/fuel mixture to ignite.
There's an old diesel engine trick you can try if your glows aren't working. Get a hair dryer and put it on high heat and then blow hot air into the air intake while starting the engine. That should get you going until you can fix your glow problem.

O.K. ...( i am not sure about this) but..i could swear on a warm day my dash doesn't countdown to heat the glow plugs?

On a 70 degree day my lx665 does not preheat more than 1 second and starts on the 2nd rev. You say it blows bluish smoke , I don't think you are getting enough or any fuel. Had to start a unfamiliar tractor a while ago and did not know where the fuel shut off lever was and as it cranked it did puff smoke but was not getting any fuel. found the lever and it started immediately.

Jerry,
In a differnet thread i was asking why my machine wouldn't turn off. I did find the fuel shut off solenoid was probably partially stuck closed. I swapped it with a known good one from one of my other machines and it shuts down right away. i had hoped that the extra fuel it gets with a good solenoid would be the fix for the hard starts but it hasn't been.

Sounds to me like it might be time for a compression test. That or run the machine and pull the oil fill plug out. Do you have a lot of blow by? Might be time for a ring job. If you need rings let me know, I can hook you up with a set for a reasonable price.
