NH L783 Battery

yes i have a weak battery. the cells look good there not to the top of the neck, but close???? My question is will a batter charger work and top off the water? or do i need a new battery (not sure on the CCA) If a battery is needed which one will work?

Ummm, as best as I can decipher your post, I recommend topping off with water, charging for 8-10 hours then load testing the battery. Any parts store can load test a battery, if it tests bad then replace with what was in the machine. Hope this helps!

yea, i was stateing that i had a bad battery, and asking should i get a new one or charge the one i got. really i was asing what is a good batter for the life.

I'm not real familiar with the L783. Does it have two slim, long batteries down each side of the engine or one regular looking car battery? Either way, Interstate batteries have always given me good service. I've also used Astro Light batteries, a little cheaper and seem to hold up well also.

Its one long battery on the right side (sitting in seat). The owners manual says. 13 l x 6 3/4 w x 9.5 t. which is about right(with 6 fill ports) its says if low fill to the bottom of the vent well. which i take it is to the bottom of the neck of the battery. I think i am gonna check into a interstate for the good CCA's. The only bad thing i see is the boom is gonna have to be up a little i think..

I checked out interstate and a 950 cca was 155 and a 1000 cca was 165. that was better than 260 that another site offered. Im gonna charge the battery. Does takeing the neg post off and the engine dies meaning a bad alternator apply here?

I cannot answer your question about taking the negative cable off and shutting off the engine. I don't think that should happen, but I'm not sure. You should be able to find a battery for around 100-120 bucks with the CCA you need. Charge the battery you have and have it load tested, then have your alternator tested before you drop the change for a new battery. If you have a bad alernator, a new battery won't last long. Find an automotive electric shop to test your alternator, most times they will do it for free.

Whoa, wait a minute. Your "boom is going to have to be up a little bit"? That should not even be an issue! Please explain a little more. The battery should be in the engine compartment, inside the boom travel. I just don't understand.

yes, i can get a interstate for 166 +tax with a cca of 1k amps. Im not sure on diesel engines,but gas engines you can take the neg cable off and if it shuts down then the alternator is bad. The alternator is a plus and easy to get to sothat wont be a problem either.. The boom will have to be up a little to get the batter out and move the shield. It could go out with out moving the boom,but i am not taking that chance. The back of the boom arm slightly covers the are where the battery can be removed.

Gotcha! I'm on the same page now. If you can jump the machine off and get it running to raise your boom and get it on the lock pins you will be able to get to the alternator and battery easily.
