I'm sure this is one of the most important services for a new machine. If I remember right, it was around $500 from my dealer...is it something that I could do myself? Is it worth it in your opinion?

Personally i would do it myself. All they will do is change the engine oil and filter, they *may* change the main hydraulic filter but i doubt they would. I'm sure they would do more, but i really don't know how they can justify $500!
It will probably include a full machine check, checking main drive belt, check for leaks, maybe grease? safety lockouts.
I have never had to get this done, i'm sure other members on here will know more than i do.

Would this service be done at the dealer you bought the machine from? If it is a local dealer I may have them do it just in case there are problems in the not too distant future. Is it required a dealer does this service for the warranty? Dont want to void the warranty this soon.

A good dealer should give you value for your $500
They should re tension the main drive belt, check steering levers for adjustment and creap.
Change oil, check all fluids and look for any sign of leaks, loose bolts.
With any new machine there is a small chance that someting that was not quite right at the factory will be caught during this service.
Personally, I'd ask them for the list and let them know if I find a problem, but I'm pretty comfortable with my machines. It's a small price to pay if it keeps your machine reliable.
I guess it is really up to you. If this service that critical to keeping their product reliable, that service should be free. Which makes me think some of it has to do with getting you used to the idea of bringing the loader to the dealer

I would look in the owmers manual and make sure I knew everything thats required at 50 hours. Then ask what they intend to do if you take it in for 500 dollars. You may be able to do The fluid change part amd save some.Keep recits for oil and filters to cover warranty.
As ken says ,the first 50 hours some things on a new machine may need adjustment.
Let the dealer know your not easy money. Mike
