Need some help, I just picked up a 02 S-185 with 2440 hrs on it and it has a very loud whine when going to turn left or right. Moving straight forward and backward it is quiet. I sold an 01 773gt before this and it was quiet so I was expecting the same. I noticed that there is an air bubble in the site window so I'm wondering if there is air in the system which is causing this. Does anyone have any idea how to bleed the air out of the system. Thanks

If you can see foam it does sound like the noise is due to air. The way to bleed it is to simply use it. Over time it will self bleed.
Are there any oil leaks? that is generally where the air gets in to cause bubbles. Is the lift/tilt jittrty or just noisy with the drive?

I have only used the machine for about 1 hour and thats been over a two week time span, so maybe I just need to give it a work out. Where and when is the proper place to look for the foam. Is there a way to check the system for air leaks. No oil leaks that I can find and the lift and tilt work fine. This machine does have the hand controls as well as foot controls. I have never owned a machine with hand controls, but that shouln't make a difference I would think

If you can't see any oil leaks, chances are its not drawing in air causing the issue, its just trapped air.
I'd give it a few more goes to see if you can get the air out before getting too concerned. Just run it for a few minutes, try and not bottom any cylinders out, so lift up and let it fall a few times, just try and not let it reach the end of the rams stroke then let it sit over night, repeat and it should be ok. It took me a week or so to purge mine, this was from a totally stripped machine though, so there was a lot of air in there.
The spot to look for foam is the site glass for the oil reserve tank, easy to spot that way.
