Mustang MTL25 I bought this machine used recently. It test drove fine. Drove on and off the trailer fine. Got it home and was driving it around to become familiar with the controls. All was going well then it suddenly would not turn left or right. It will go forward and back normally just no left or right. Fluid is full. Ideas where to begin troubleshooting would be appreciated. Thanks

It turned out to be an operator error. My employee was trying to maneuver while the machine was in Hi-Speed mode. Put is into slow mode and it steers fine. In hi-speed mode it steers once you are moving fast but not slow.

I think it should still steer in hi speed mode too.... Something to keep an eye on though.
Glad it's working

Well I was misinformed by my employee. He said it worked in slow. When I got home and looked at it the machine was stuck in the field and the right track would not move. I had just bought the machine and new it had a noise in the right travel motor. Turns out that it made it about 100 feet off the trailer and the travel motor did a grenade. When I pulled the cover off of the gear reduction all of the gears had missing and broken teeth. Not a problem though because the price was so good and the rest of the machine is in great shape. I found a bolt that held one of the gears on its post had broken and the bolt head and retaining washer started the teeth breaking and it just went from there. A complete travel motor is $6,000.00. Repair gears are $10,000.00. That seems stupid. Instead of being robbed by the dealer I am planning to send the gears to a reverse engineering shop and have them make new ones. They are just simple spur gears anyway.

That is less than awesome news. I wonder what they will want to make gears for you, if they do it on a CNC, they may want to keep that saved, i think there may be a market for them with other customers that have their gears go too.
