Hot soapy water has always worked for me. Before I had my own wash cabinet I would go to the car wash. Some guys will flush with diesel fuel. Just be sure you get everything out.

I have done that too. I used kero in a spray bottle and compressed air. Give everything a good oil up when you re-assemble it, run it for a few hours and change the filter. This will get rid of anything you missed plus get rid of any left over kero/diesel.
