Has anyone been dealing with the New Holland L160 switch / sensor problems? also the parking brake issue ? Thanks Peter
I think I'm having the same issue - my L160 starts up fine, but won't get out of park. I posted on the forum about it, no luck yet.Have the same issue on L170. How did you fix it ?
These things are hard enough to diagnose when you are looking at it, nevermind over the internet...But anyhow, assuming the machine is stock and nothing bypassed:I think I'm having the same issue - my L160 starts up fine, but won't get out of park. I posted on the forum about it, no luck yet.
Shanmar - Thanks for the reply, really appreciate your logical approach here. To answer your questions:These things are hard enough to diagnose when you are looking at it, nevermind over the internet...But anyhow, assuming the machine is stock and nothing bypassed:
1 - when you first set in the seat, do all the dash lights light up and it beep? If so, that would suggest the seat switch is working.
2 - when you hook up the seat belt, does the seat belt light go out? If so, that would suggest the seat belt switch is working.
3 - Then start it, the only light on should be the park light. Push the park button, does it go off?
I'll wait for those answers before going further because now it gets more difficult.
One thought, check all the fuses in the cab and engine compartment.
Also, wiggle the relays (row of roughly 1" black square blocks) in the engine compartment. On a couple of mine the sockets for the blades got bad connections due to corrosion and/or vibration/age.
Checked those fuses and blocks, I couldn't actually locate that row of black blocks in the engine compartment (picture below), but I do have a fuse / relay area in the cab, which has 4 ~1"x1" blocks, maybe my machine is slightly different (or I'm just not seeing the fuses in the engine compartment). Anyways, wiggled those, pulled them in and out and no corrosion that I noticed. The gray relay in the picture here though had a severely rusted pin, to the point where it was barely hanging on. I'm not sure what this relay does, but I'm going to get a replacement today regardless. The machine is older, and in a salty environment, so it's a bit of a discovery process.Shanmar - Thanks for the reply, really appreciate your logical approach here. To answer your questions:
1. Yes, dash lights come on and it beeps.
2. Yes, when I buckle the belt, the seatbelt light goes out.
3. After I start it, only the parking light stays on, all other lights are off. When I push the park button, it does NOT go off. Just blinks briefly when I press the park button, but it stays on.
In the meantime, I'll do what you suggest and check the fuses and give those blocks a wiggle.
Yea, that relay is junk. Not sure what that one does. It may deal with the flashers. If you're parts guy can't find it, have him look at figure 55.404.11[01]. It might be item #8. Messicks.com is a good website to look at part catalogs. So, I'm going to admit that you're machine is just a little newer than what is my wheelhouse. I did have an L170, but didn't get into working on it too much. Plus, I think your machine might have the cab upgrade and I never owned one of them. You're relays are in the cab and that is a better place for them. Shanmar - Had some trouble finding a replacement relay, but got one and put it in today. Had my hopes up, but it didn't solve the issue unfortunately. Still the same situation - switches are working (machine beeps and light up when I sit, and seatbelt light goes off when I buckle), but it still won't get itself out of park when I press the park button. I may try and find a mechanic to come visit at this point. Appreciate your help thus far.Yea, that relay is junk. Not sure what that one does. It may deal with the flashers. Ended up having a mechanic come out after trying a bunch of stuff. He determined it was the alternator that had gone bad, of all things. Apparently the alternator provides the higher voltage needed to run some of the electronics.Darn. These can be a pain. Did you see the PM I sent you?
Yes, see your PM now!
