The digital gauge is almost impossible to change, the only way is to change out the computer but even then i think the dealer loads the previous hours on the new computer (not 100% on that though).
See if its still tight and runs well, if it does it could be genuine?

You need a new computer and a dealer to program it to change the hours. About $800 plus labour

It sounds like a very good price to me. I don't think you'll beat that if it's in good shape.
I am so jazzed! I am the new owner of the above S160 with the combo bucket...and got it for $ 12,000. The machine looks new and definately has 261 hours on it. The great thing is my wife is as excited as I am.
Its great when the Mrs approves too!

First off, congrats!! You got a really good machine! Do you know the history--absolutely FOR SURE?? The price raises a BIG RED WARNING FLAG for me--seems quite cheap, not much over half of list, if that. Bobcat had a big-time promotion last spring. You could get a new plain-Jane S-160(no cab, power bobtach or anything) for $21,500, which was a limited time reduced price promotion, so I think, with a combo bucket, you got it suspiciously cheap if it is A-1 nice. As long as you know the history for absolute FOR SURE, you did good! NO , you did FANTASTIC. Make sure the serial # on the tag matches the one the factory stamps under the frame. If the history is fuzzy/unable to nail down with proof, I'd be on my guard that it has a bad history, such as an insurance unit (flood damage, stolen, fire, etc.) Don't want to rain on your parade, I hope I'm wrong. But I couldn't get anywhere close to such a price in Iowa. I'll take the next one you find and pay you a finder's fee!! GREAT PRICE ON A GREAT MACHINE!!!
No it checks out...it's a bank repo. Last oil change was 11/7/07 @ 201 hours. It was being used on a condo development in San Diego that went Tango Uniform, and was hidden in the underground garage behind stacks of drywall. The repo company / bank broker provided me with a full paper trail.

No need for a finders fee, just google it yourself. Punch in "S160 bobcat", or whatever model you're looking for, and most of the units for sale in the country pop up. I noticed that the market seems to be a lot softer out here on the west coast. I saw a s300 with very few hours asking 17K yesterday. Now I need to find a similar deal on a 709 backhoe...
