I’d be inclined to remove all wiring and start from scratch with some good, non-soy based (critters don’t eat it) insulated wiring and build my own looms. It definitely isn’t that complicated and the circuits should be relatively easy to build from the wiring diagram you got from Messick’s.
 
I prefer a button myself, but then again I have been called a Neanderthal

These wires are old school, definitely no soy as this has been sitting years in the woods. But yes, I plan to rewire and clean up the electricians nightmare thats on it after I get it running and ironed out. If I cant get it running Ill probly sell it for someone else to do a motor swap or parts,,,,
