Hardstarting LX565

I put new alternator,battery,glow plugs,cleaned fuel injectors. Unit will not start without a shot of starting fluid.Fires right up with a little shot.Never had to us S.F. before.It is ike it is loosing its prime overnight. Any ideas ?

Are you sure the glow plugs are heating up? Make sure of that first. If they were getting hot I think starting fluid would have almost exploded in there and possibly done some damage.Take one glow plug out and ground the body of it while connected to the power strip , it should get red hot in a few seconds. Did you replace the glow plugs with the exact same type? Just asking because Mike10 I believe mentioned New Holland going from a 30 second plug to a 15 second one.

I made sure there was power to them but didnt make sure they were actually heating up. I will try that tomorrow. Not sure if they are the same plugs i got them from a new holland dealer.

If smoke is coming out of the muffler when cranking and not starting then you are getting fuel. If you are not getting smoke then you have a fuel supply problem. You may also have bad injectors. Did you have them checked or just cleaned? If you are getting power to the glow plugs and they are working the last possibility is low compression.

I am getting smoke.Just cleaned (injectors).Do you think the glow plug relay could be a possiblity ?After the first start of the day it starts and runs fine for the rest of the day.

I had one glow plug go bad this winter, It's surprising how much difference that made at about 10 degrees F. I had to cycle the plugs twice and then it was a ragged start. If none were working I dont think it would start on its own. With all 4 working it has started down to 20 below no problem.
Have you checked the power strip for current ? If so make sure it stays on as long as the countdown runs. Might be hard to do by yourself but you could rig a 12 volt light that you could see out the back as you turn the key.

Thamks for all the advise. All four of the brand new glow plugs were bad,exchanged them and it starts fine now.

Nice to hear its running again, for the price the dealer charges for them it is surprising that they were bad. When I did mine I checked them on a battery and in about 5 seconds they were bright red to the tip except for the one bad one.
