Gehl 4615 info needed

I picked up a 4615 diesel this weekend and it needs work. I do not know the make of the engine, nor the year of manufacture but suspect it's around 1990. It is set up to crank the starter from the engine compartment and pouring ATF down the air intake is required to start it. I think compression is weak. It has no foot controls, only t-handles, left is front/back/turn, right is lift/bucket. It will not shut off with the key and I have not found a shut off solenoid on the injection pump yet. Does anyone have experience with these> I would also like to find a manual somewhere. this thing is dangerous the way it is currently set up and I'd at least like to start and stop it from the driver's cage. Any help would be appreciated. I am a newbie to skid steers but have been working on cars 40 years and diesels about 7 years.

Some diesels shut off when you throttle them all the way back to cut off fuel. I know my old 731 with an air cooled Deutz worked this way, it didn't have a shut off solenoid. Yours may be the same?
Does it have glow plugs?

Yes it has glow plugs and they do get power and at least one of them gets warm. Haven't had a chance to check the rest but looks like the previous owner wasn't using them. Found a cable shutoff on the IP today, at least I think that's what it is. Could not find an electric solenoid so I assume it's mechanical shutoff. I also found out that the throttle may go back further than I thought so I'll try that too. It has a lockout notch but the handle can go to one side and slide further back beyond that stop. Today was bad weather so I didn't have much time to investigate further and going to work didn't help the schedule either. Work always interferes with my hobbies. :~) Still would like to find out the make of this motor. I have some pics but will have to find a way to post them here.

Well, I called GEHL and got some info that should help. This is a Perkins 4.108 engine according to the factory. I also found a cable-driven valve on the IP that looks like a shut off, yet to be tested. Will try to acquire an operator's manual for this beast and get it in safe operating condition. If anyone has an operator's manual for a GEHL 4615 before SN 14200 I'd like to ask a few questions of buy one from you if you would like to sell it.
