I have a mid 70's Bobcat 530B that I use around my acreage. I am thinking about replacing the 20hp engine. Does anyone know what the output shaft is on the gas engine? I have a Yesterday's tractor service manual. It shows a represenation of the shaft, but doen't say if it's spline, keyed, etc... Anybody got any ideas? Also, is there a proper procedure to tow (drag) these machines? Sometime on hydrostatic equipement, there are bypass valves that need to be turned in. I need to get it from the shed to the shop to work on it. About 100 yards. THanks Chris

The original engine is a Kohler K582 with a short tapered output shaft. http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/product.asp?PN=4852215&desc=Kohler Shortblock 23hp Shortblock to fit Bobcat 520, 530, and 540 skidloaders, has short tapered shaft Shortblock 23hp Shortblock to fit Bobcat 520, 530, and 540 skidloaders, has short tapered shaft
There's no bypass valve you just have to drag it slowly. It does help to hold the steering levers in the direction it being dragged it will let the wheels roll a little.

Chris...I have the same skidsteer, a mid 70's model 530 with the same Kohler engine. The engine is tired and I'm thinking of converting to a Briggs, Honda, etc. Trouble is, I don't know what shaft and what engines I may consider to replace it with. Have you take yours apart yet to see the exact dimensions of the shaft? Also, what attaches to the engine on the PTO side. I'm assuming a hydraulic pump. I'm assuming a replacement engine would have a different height from the mounting plate to the pump. is the pump fixed to the frame or does it hang on the engine? I could find all this out if I took mine apart, but thought maybe you are past that point already! Thanks
