Just trying to make a positive out of a neagative. My compressor locked up. So I've ordered a new one frm Sears 5hp, 175 psi & 80 gal tank. while I was on the net looking I came across a Milleramtic 210 mig used less than 10 hrs with a alum. spool gun & 2 full tanks of welding gas, all the proper paper wrk. $1400. I'm thinking the spool gun & tanks would be over a $1000. to go out and buy them.
Guess I'll learn to use a mig now. Old Dog--New Tricks??? I'll keep you posted. dennis

Sounds pretty good to me.
I had a MIG for years, hardly used it till one day i thought, bugger it, i may as well. It worked rally well, especially on new steel, old rusty stuff it doesn't play nice at all. Give it a good grind and its good to go. MIG has its place, as does the old fashion stick welding, high penetration welds, stick every time, long not so high strength welds, th MIG shines.
Its not that big of a learning curve, i was always taught push the torch and not pull like you do on stick welding, but pulling does work and changes the way you weld.
You will love it! especially new or thin steel, it does things a stick welder can't.
Merry x-mas! *whispers* in July.

We do about 90% of our welding with mig now. It work well in most situation, Just grind or wire wheel clean and you good to go. Penetration is less of a issue if you bevel you joints correctly which you should do with stick anyway. Mig is great for this and where worping is a issue. Also easy to tack with, though you can't bend the tack as much to align the piece b4 the initial pass. There really is no learning curve if you stick weld, other then stay out of the wind.
Now that spool gun on the other hand.....
