hello- my first post! purchased my first skid steer for personal use a month ago. a 2003 cat 226 with 1800 hrs. in excellent shape and happy with it. have my first question/problem. changed all the fluids out of her just to make sure everything was new, etc. for engine oil i put in rotella t 5w-40 synthetic since winter is around the corner and i live in the north east. oil met cat specs. after putting in this oil a day or two later the oil pressure light has come on- but it is very very faint-the light is not bright. i am pretty handy and do most of my repairs and all of my preventive maintenance. i was wondering if this is just coincidental or maybe the synthetic oil might be the culprit?. i dont have the service manual yet- cant swing the price-only the parts catalog and the operations/maintenance manuals. any of you guys have any ideas where i should look first? thanks. rob

I guess I would start by asking the Cat dealer and putting a oil presurre guage on the engine and comparing it with specs. Hopefully it is just a faulty oil pressure sender tripping the light to early? Is it on at a idle and goes away as you speed the engine up, or is it always on?
You could cut open the engine oil filter and look for bearing material if you really think there is a serious problem. The oil you used should not have cause a oil pressure change.

tested the oil pressure switch-it is bad.
