I have a Cat 236d skidsteer and it has developed a leak on the drive motor where the two halves meet and looks like there is a snap ring holding the two halves together. Has anyone came across this before? Just wondering if this is the brake section leaking and how would that come apart to reseal it if I could.

We have a cat 289d skidsteer. Having trouble with the switch that releases the bucket. Anyone else with this issue? And how did you fix it.

Pulling the motor out is your only opinion if its leaking from the inside out, I would confirm that its not a loose fitting or o-ring on the outside first before taking it out

This is a common issue with drive motors, the biggest problem is the entire system shares the same tank

I would start by draining the hydraulic tank and checking for metal shavings inside the tank, most cases they will appear gold in color and a magnet is your best friend

If no metal is found than you should be alright but if you do find shavings it is highly recommend to flush the entire system

From my experience the shavings cut the o-ring causing a leak, seals kits are available but I highly recommend that you open it up to inspect for damages before ordering any parts

I would start by verifying that you have power to the switch and testing the switch itself,
if they both check out good you need to find the coil that actives that valve in most cases the coil goes bad you can verifie that you have 12 volts going to coil and ohms test the coil itself
