Good morning everyone! I am new to this group. I recently purchased a case 1816b (for $200!) the skid has a tecumseh OH160 on it right now. I would like to throw on one of them predator engines on it (the tecumseh is on its way out and I can't find parts). I was hoping someone in this group has done a swap to one of these machines with the predator 670 and what types of hoops I will have to jump through to get this done. Any help would be great!!! Thank you in advance!!!

If you have the gear, re-powering is always doable, getting a shop to do it adds up quickly.
I think the hardest part will be the linkage from the motor to the pumps, if the old engine has a straight shaft, it will be easy, bobcat had some tapered shafts on their engines, so that took some work to modify.

If you are at all handy it is very easy. I did it in about 14 hours. A few hours each night after work. Used the original ignition, throttle and choke cables. The hardest part was figuring out the wiring, because the Predator comes wired with ignition switch. I removed the ignition switch along with the choke and throttle cables that came with the predator. Of course the wiring diagrams that I could find were in Chinese. I am of course assuming that you have the hand lever to engage the drive. If you have the electric or centrifugal clutch I am not sure. Mine has the hand lever.

Thank you for the tips dynacore! Did you order a new pulley? My machine is the 1816b and I believe the Tecumseh oh160 had the 1-3/16" shaft? I think the predator is only 1" right? Did you shim the original pulley (the only shims I can find are 1" to 1-1/8")or did you purchase an aftermarket? And yes I do have the hand lever to engage the drive.

Here is a link to a kit that you can buy, looks like it should not be that hard:

Thank you Tazza I believe my engine is a straight shaft but that is a good question. I'm going to have to make sure this weekend. Thank you for the link skidroe. I did look into the Briggs from small engine warehouse but I would still have to make a mounting plate and a few other things and it is over double the price. So I guess my thought is if I can get a plate, exhaust, and pulley set up on the predator if the engine ever blows it will be a simple swap and a lot cheaper the second time around.

Absolutely - I would just use what SEW has done as a guide. That is what I did when I repowered my 440b.
You can definitely save a ton of money doing it yourself if you have the capabilities.
Cheers & good luck! - SR

Looks like I'll be doing the same. Ended up with a Predator 670cc, ordered the bushing from SEW, but couldn't manage to get a mount out of them. Do you by chance wanna make two? lol.

When I did mine, I made a template by tracing the mounting base on my new, and transferring it to the original plate, then adding some material and drilling the holes. You could do the same thing here, only twice to create an adapter plate. Trace the mounting base on both your old and new engines, and transfer them to your adapter plate.
I had the same issue with the wiring, but I disassembled the ignition switch box, identified what each wire did, then was able to match them up to the machine's stock harness. I put a trailer connector in to connect the engine wiring to the stock harness, so that it was easy to disconnect if I needed to put the motor.
Hope this helps - SR

Kansas did you end up getting the new engine put in? If you did, did you end up having to lower the mount plate to get the pulley centered the in the same spot as the original? Did you have to cut anything out?
