New to the forms. Just bought my first bobcat 1994 743B. Want to change the oil & was told by local dealership they use 10W30 oil. Is this the same oil for gas engines or is there a different oil for the diesel engines, thanks.

If it has a diesel motor I would use Rotella T or delvac.
Diesel grade in the engine, 15W40 is what is recommended for Kubota.
The rest of the hydraulic system can run the same oil, there is a huge oil debate....

Actually the weight of engine oil you use should be based on the ambient air temperature that you are working in. I use 5w30 in winter and 15w40 in summer. I know others that use 10w30 all year long. In fact my dealer recommends 10w30 all year long and will not stock anything but. The important thing to remember is to use a high quality diesel engine oil and not a gasoline engine oil Diesel oils have a higher detergent content to help keep the soot levels in diesels under control. As far as hydraulic oils go, back in the day most manufacturers did specify engine oil for the hydraulics but that has changed. New hydraulic oils have anti-foaming agents added among other additives to help prevent pump cavitation. The 743 could be one of those machines that is right in that era. I know that on newer Bobcats that they recommend Bobcat hydraulic oil, but that is probably more marketing than anything else. If you were to look hard enough you probably could find the exact same stuff in a major brand. After all Bobcat is in the skid steer business not the oil business. Good luck...

I just read an article written by a vickers engineer stating that you donot want to be using detergent oil in a hydraulic system whatso ever never ever ever! LOL

I know there has been some debate about it recently on the forums but I am considering using Rotella 5W40 synthetic oil year round in my bobcat. Anything new about this?

Thanks, the dealer here only uses 10W30 oil year round & its like $30 for a 5L container. I wasn't sure if I could use regular 10W30 oil from Canadian Tire for like $12 for 5L, same as I use in my car, didn't know if there was a differance. Also your saying the same oil can be used in the hydralic system????

10w30 from CTC is fine so long as it is the diesel oil. It's the oil that I use in my machine.

I've used 15w40 amsoil synthetic all year round with great results. Of course I usually let the machine idle for a few minutes before I start blowing snow, I run the same thing in my cummins ram and it works great.

Thinking about putting Rotella T6 5W-40 synthetic oil in my 743B motor. Winter temps down to approx zero F, and summer max is about 70 degrees F where Ilive. Anyone else using this? How many hours between changes?

some engines will consume synthetic oils so if you go this route watch your oil levels , if it does use oil where it did not before just keep topping off until hours is reached and go back to standard 15/40 oil. oh if you have engine oil leaks they might get bigger with synthetic ,moreso with a 5 weight.

I've been using T6 15w-40 for a couple of years now in my 753. I picked up every 2.5 gallon jug both local Walmarts had a couple of years ago on clearance for $15/jug. From what I've read is synthetic 15W is really 5W so it flows nice in the winter. Now I use T6 in all of my small gas engines too.
