As I mentioned before I am going through my 743 as time permits and for quite some time my left stick feels like it doesn't really engage the drive motor. I am unsure if it is the Drive Motor however I find no metal in the fluid and I hear no grinding. It does engage a little it feels like but I just cant tell. I have attached the link to the old discussion/thread below of what I am tracking down. You can see when I jerk the left stick it doesnt bounce the machine as one would expect but it does do it to the right. I will check the brake thing out this weekend to see if in fact that might be it as mentioned in the other thread. http://www.skidsteerforum.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=54&frmView=AddPost&ForumID=1 I have attached a old link of me operating the machine to try to give an idea. I maybe even posted it some time ago below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YA-VaYbgBA&feature=g-upl&context=G2184646AUAAAAAAAAAA Reading other threads it seems it can be the linkage, the chain off the pulley, broken pulley or chain, the drive motor or the pump or a host of other things such as the brake lever on. The pump seems ok for all other actions and operating the machine. I assume my best option is a general inspection of everything to rule anything obvious out such as a chain off pulley. It seems there are two covers on the side of the machine to access the drive motors but I dont see any bolts that would allow me to get the covers off? So I guess in all I am asking: 1. how to get the side access to drive motors covers come off? 2. What should I do to check the linkage for proper operating? 3. Is there an inspection plate for the chains and pulleys and where is it / how does it come off/ what am I looking for? It just gives the feeling like I have almost no power when pushing the left lever and then when i push the right the machine takes off. There is also a loud whining noise when I engage the left stick. you can hear it at the link.

You can try swapping drive motors from side to side to see if the issue moves. If so, the drive motor needs attention, if not the pump may need some work.

Thanks Taz! I will give that a try? Do you think there might be a chance that the brake is partially engaged like it was suggested in the other thread? I had a massive amount of fluid get pumped out from an open line and i didnt see of feel any metal in the fluid. I will play with the brake some and see what happens and then swap drive motors to see. Do you know if the two side panels come off to expose the drive motors or do they have to be worked on from the top of the chain case? Any pics or diagrams about how those side panels are removed?

The panels come off with 4 bolts, they can be a pain to access, but they are there. You remove the mouts from the sides.
The covers are secured with bolts at the front and back of this plate. Get under there with a torch and look for the bolts.
I'd doubt the brake would be the issue, kick the pedal back and it should be free to move. It uses friction to engage, when it's on it will put pressure on both discs, so it would be an issue on both sides.

sounds like you got some time. toss the motors on the bench and reseal both. replace carrier seals while youre there. 150 in parts. and that part of rebuild equation is done.

Tazza, When you say they have 4 bolts are you talking about the exterior of the loader like the access cover between the two wheels? On my 763 it is simple they have the steel plate cover with 4 bolts and they are unscrewed and the cover comes off and the drive motor is right there. On my 743 there is what looks like a cover but no bolts that I can see on the exterior to allow me to remove the plate. I wasnt sure if it prys off or if there are bolts I am missing? 7LBSSMALLIE You are right it wouldnt hurt to do that and I do have some down time right now as I have been piddling with all my way past due projects trying to cleqar the list off a little. When you mention resealing the drive motors, I mean obliviously if I am going to rebuild them I would replace all seals but for now there are no leaks so I am curious bc I have never rebuilt one, if the seals if they aren't leaking how would that impact the operation of the motor or are you meaning just rebuild and look for damage to the gears and reseal while i am there?

If we are talking about the same plates, there are covers between the wheels that cover the drive motors.
They are indeed held in with 4 bolts, they are hard to see, but you access them from under the machine, two towards the front wheels, two towards the rear wheels. Like i said, the are hard to see, as you need a socket and extension bar to get to the bolts. 9/16"
Side on, the plates sort of look like this:
--|_____|-- the -- parts have the bolts, hopefully that will help you find them.

The drive motors leak internally which in turn affects how they run. I'm about to do one of mine due to lagging when I move the control lever. Adam.
